Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Has anyone ever used the internet to find a flatmate?

My housemate is leaving to move in with his girlfriend and I don't want to downgrade from my lovely Ladder flat with a massive living room, garden etc. to some poky studio which would be more expensive.

Therefore I am thinking of finding a new flatmate, but most of the websites out there seem to be geared towards landlords letting out rooms in HMOs. I rent the flat so the flatmate would need to be added to the existing tenancy agreement (the landlord is happy to do this).

Has anyone had any success in a similar type of scenario?

Hello

I'm new to this and was wondering where your flat is and how much it is?

I currently live in Brighton but am looking to move Back to London so am starting to research.

Is it a double room?

Cheers

Sophie

I've always used spareroom to find flatmates but I've had a poke around thinking of moving from my current situation, and you can't narrow the search very much except on price and area, so it's hard to find exactly the type of people you want to move in with!

Gumtree seems full of nutters/timewasters/moneygram scammers.  It's tricky!

Even on Spareroom I've always stressed NO SMOKERS but twice I've had people give up for the day of the viewing and take it up again as soon as they've paid the deposit.  The room has a balcony so it unfortunately very attractive to them.

Moveflat.com could help if this forum doesn't find you someone. Friends of friends are also good for this sort of thing - that's how I found my last flatmate and we have been sharing for 7 years - good luck!

Spareroom, moveflat or gumtree

We've done it various times in our shared flat, adding tenants to the tenancy agreement each time (for which our charming landlord levies us with an ridiculous £90 fee for a new contract)

Personally, I found spareroom the most useful but you do have to pay a small fee. Gumtree is free but you get a lot more timewasters/spam etc from it.

My advice is post clear pictures of the room and communal areas and give lots of specifics in your advert including important house rules (like no smoking/pets/restrictions on the how often overnight guests are welcome etc) a list of the furniture included and a breakdown of what bills are likely to be.  Then you waste less time meeting potential flatmates who suddenly reveal they want to bring a three piece suite with them or want to let their Aussie cousin sleep on the sofa for two months.

Yes, I might be interested in this too. Depends on how much and where on the Ladder it is.

thanks for the advice, everyone.

i have posted the room on spareroom if anyone is interested: http://www.spareroom.co.uk/flatshare/flatshare_detail.pl?flatshare_...
