Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Congratulations to Veolia - now the most talked about company on Harringay Online

Congratulations to Veolia. This morning the 75th 'veolia' tag was added to a forum thread (and this one makes it 76).

Sadly, for them of course, its a bit of a wooden spoon award this time round. There are some positive comments and even wholly positive threads, but by and large this isn't the PR most organisations would be looking for.

But, are we all being unfair? Are they on a hiding to nothing? Is theirs the type of operation that will win few friends, especially at a time of such change? Or, is the criticism deserved? If so, who should it be directed at? At Veolia? At their bosses, the Council? Or both?

Perhaps, more importantly, where do we all go from here? What on earth is the way forward?

Hi Alan: I live on the Ladder.  Thanks for the info about the Scrutiny panel review, and I see that one of our councillors, Cllr Alexander, is also on that panel.

Perhaps I should report this to her as well as highlighting it on here - our recycling was collected this morning, but as well as the contents being taken, they also took our BIN...having had a look up and down the street, I can't see where it may have been left so have just been onto Veolia about it...apparently it's going to take up to ten working days to get another one!  In the meantime we've been told to either put our recycling on the ground in carrier bags next to the refuse bin, which is a no-no because of foxes and other curious beings, or to put it in with the refuse, which rather defeats the object of recycling.  And no, I'm not making any of this up.

Good idea to copy-in Karen as well.

Personally I wouldn't put up with a fortnight's delay getting a replacement recycling bin after it's done a vanishing act. Though to be fair to the Call Centre person you spoke to, that may be the "script" they're given.

It must be soul destroying to have to stick to scripts rather than use your own brain and initiative to try solving someone's problem. (One reason I'm happy not to be one of Claire Kober's happy band who read out stuff written for them!)

well thats one of the problems with the world....people sticking to their job 'scripts'.  Instead of using some common sense and treating people like fellow human beings.
I dont have any time for these people...they are barriers

There was an announcement at the end of 2012 that Veolia was pulling out of a massive £4.7 billion contract in North London, including Haringey.

Palestinian Solidarity Campaign congratulates all  campaigners who mobilised locally to support Palestinian rights and oppose the contract being awarded to Veolia.

Can I assume, Ana_p that you are referring to Veolia pulling out of the Pinkham Way contract? If so can you please say that rather than post a misleading comment that Veolia are pulling out of Haringey.

"In war, truth is the first casualty."

"He will lie, sir, with such volubility, that you would think truth were a fool."

rather than post a misleading comment that Veolia are pulling out of Haringey.

Well, I have to admit that during the recent 'blizzard' and the multiple missed collections I was beginning to wonder!

Could be worse. You might be in Harrow with three bins next to these neighbours.
