Not surprised to see Sainsbury's involved with this. The longer they can keep people driving round in circles in their car park, the more refreshments and petrol they'll sell.
I've really got no idea why they're after an emergency entrance to the site. It's always easy to get *into* the area, it's just impossible to get out. An emergency vehicle could just go down the wrong side of the road if it needed to get out quickly.
Hopefully the traffic lights will make a bit of a difference, and rerouting the traffic around the complex will definitely help homebase customers. My first experience of the Arena prison experience was popping down to Homebase to get a replacement hammer halfway through a job. It took over an hour to get out of the car park because only 1 car would get out of homebase each time the lights cycled...
I dont mean to pry but it amazes me as to why someone living in Kimberley Gardens would drive to Homebase for a small item like a hammer.....Slap my wrist if you have a good reason and I`ll apologise
Ahh, well no good reason other than a new license, a new car, and a headlong rush to get the floor back down and cover up the wiring so our toddler couldn't get her hands on it.
sigh...We came back from hols on Thursday and I thought I go down at Friday lunchtime with the MIL(which is why a: we drove, and b: it was sort of urgent to stock up). 20 minutes to get out of the carpark. And that is not at a *peak* time. How soon before they really start losing custom over this? On the plus side, they do at least now have the blokes in fluoro jackets making sure we all gave way nicely.
Also, hats off to them now at least trying to enforce the parent and child parking bays. It was doing my head in trying to squeeze a little un out of the back of the car while the many kids parking bays were occupied by people 'just popping in' to the cash machines. Although that does make you wonder given how long it takes to get out of the car park ;).
Now that my Mother in Law has gone it's back to the internet for shopping for me... whoopee...
Well if I go up to Homebase for something heavy - like yesterday for a large bag of compost - too heavy to carry or take on the bus, so have to go in the car park, although this time I cleverly parked near the exit and got a Homebase young chap to wheel it all the way to my car. Got out quicker.
I have tried parking on the main road a few weeks ago, on the left just before the bridge. went to put money in the meter but it wouldn't go. A man told me that didn't have to pay after 5 pm. Great I thought. Checked the sign as am neurotic about parking fines (as I get so many in spite of being careful. Walked up came back parking ticket. Man came out of shop said people always getting caught there - betwen 5 and 7Pm NO PARKING ! Went back to check the sign - right at the ottom of long sign it says no parking 5- 7 pm after the bit about parking restrictions end at 5 pm. Hadn't read to the bottom, had I. am going to try and challenge it though on grounds unclear..... but it means ticket price doubled... is it worth it..probably not, but pissed off.
Another time I parked in a side road on a residents parking permit thinking my permit covered it (down in middle of Green lanes) - got a ticket - traffic wrden said my ticket doesn't cover that far up.... sigh...now I know.
I've been caught out with that one. My bag of fries cost me £51. And I know I read that sign carefully. Like you, I always do.
I have just come back from a holiday in Devon where the council treats their citizens in a relatively civilised manner. Not Haringey. We're just cash machines to the council. Parking fines are one of their main ways of earning revenue. Let's face it, there's not a lot going on in this borough for their business rates to fill the budget hole.
This is just stupid. And works in that junction increases tailbacks up Endymion Road, all the way back up to Tollington Park, so it will be a nighmare to get home in the evenings. Again.
Bloody stupid idiots, if only they could have looked at this with half a brain between them at planning stage, then we would not be here now. I hope they're all losing masses - I am now going to Waitrose in Holloway. Can't stand it!
And "submitting a planning application" - so we have to wait for the council to approve that one too? ARGHHH!
Words cannot describe what I think of Haringey council, they're beyond useless.
I've been issued parking tickets a couple of times in Haringey, forget even trying to read the damn parking signs, I bet the Roadrunner couldn't even decode their obfuscated messages.
Parking signs should be electronic with “Yes you can park, go pay at the meter” and “No you can’t park, go away” and should be implemented in all CPZ’s. <-- That’s my idea don’t try stealing it.
