Any other Orange Day parents out there worrying what to do about the just published 'inadequate' Ofsted rating?
Their letter to all the parents about this says Eileen Rumble has been returned as Interim Manager but chatting at Harringay Market today i was told she's only back part time, does anyone know if thats the case?
That letter also said Eileen would be corresponding with all parents by the end of last week but we've had nothing yet, has anyone?

BBC article; Childcare costs make work 'hardly worthwhile'
Will be a big fat £1330 p/m! (for a baby 5 days a week)
Our son has been at Orange for the last 2.5 years and loves it. His development has come on leaps and bounds and pretty much all the nursery staff that we deal with are friendly, polite and always give us lots of feedback on what he's been up to (from what other friends have told us about other nurseries, this is a real rarity). The Ofsted report came as a real shock. It's hard to disagree with some of their findings, though others run contrary to my own experience (eg they've often asked me to sign the accident book even though there's no visible injury, rather than omitting to mention it). Also one of the criticisms is about kids not being able to have free access to outside at any time of day. How do you manage that in a 3 storey building? I think that's an unrealistic expectation for London, where nurseries don't tend to have the luxury of all being on the ground floor.
I think they may have been a bit complacent from their last Ofsted inspection and obviously some things have slipped. I'll look forward to hearing about their plan for picking things back up. This was certainly a wake up call for them, but I believe that they have all the raw materials for lifting the standards, it just needs a bit of solid leadership.
It's noticeable that several of the parents commenting above say that they chose the Nursery carefully, that they liked it and that the children were very happy there UNTIL they ( the parents ) read the Ofsted report. Perhaps they should trust in their own judgement and that of their children before they panic about a report based on a one-day inspection by someone who doesn't know the school, the area and the children ?
Thats a good point John and generally I would trust my judgement - part of my careful research was checking the ofsted reports of each nursery along with visits and reccomendations
Orange had a great report when we registered and its commitment to learning was one of the main reasons we sent our little one there.
I dont have any huge concerns over his safety or wellbeing rigght now as he is still too tiny to cause much damage :) or have anything other than his fairly basic needs met at the moment so yes he is happy
I do now have some concerns over his future years and learning experience at Orange - I think like a lot of parents I am questioning how it has gone downhill so rapidly and why - we are also paying a vast sum of money - far more than other nurseries in the area.
Orange have always traded on their postive Oftsted reports and charged a higher rate -When we visited and registered for a place last year we were assured of the high standards of care, comitment to learning etc. if they are now failing to provide on some points even the most basic care then quite naturally I am going to be concerned. I can't keep an eye on what happens to him all day and he can't tell me what happens so I have to place a huge amount of trust and faith in the nursery. Reading the report has made me question somewhat the faith and trust I have in those taking care of my very young child. Although I think many of us will say that our experience of the nursery has largely been a positive one there is no denying some of the key areas highlighted as areas for improvement
I will of course give them a period of time to try and sort this out but if there isn't any change then I think like a lot of people I will have to rethink my choice. Perhaps the owners of Orange should stop viewing this as a business and start thinking more about the wellbeing and development of the children and supporting the staff a little more...
I don't know John, I've just been back through all the posts and don't see anyone saying quite that.
Most of the parents i know from there have got the impression things weren't as good there as they used to be. Its also quite hard for us to really know what goes on during the day when all you mostly get to see are friendly faces when you drop off and pick up your kids. Maybe we are being silly to give weight to things like Ofsted reports, i'm new to all this childrens education stuff so I don't know, which is partly why i brought this up on HoL. It doesn't look like they just missed a couple of check boxes though, its a 10 page report with some fairly strong language. Have you read the report and could you give us any more anaysis of it?
my son has been at orange for nearly 3 years and my 1 yr old daughter started a couple of weeks ago. Shocked by report and can't relate to much of it as i have found his care and support/ play / learning etc consistently well managed and always had good communication from staff. I would say that part of nursery life , there often is a pattern of nursery staff moving onto new positions, I guess to gain further experience and broaden horizons and when my son was younger and this happened I was quite upset as I had got very used to the staff, but with time the new staff found their feet and developed their confidence, and I would say that currently there are some new staff who maybe haven;t found their feet yet, but from my experience at Orange I would anticipate that will come. There are a number of senior staff who have been there longer than my son has and who I trust will rise to this challenge. This last year and particularly the 3 months up to Christmas I was in and out of Orange at various times to collect my son and to settle in my daughter and I did not pick up on anything being different or lacking. I received all the emails and Eileen has promptly replied to a number of concerned emails I have sent so am looking forward to Thursday to establish what has happened. Having spent months looking at ofsted reports for schools for Sept I am aware how information can be misrepresented and more interested to find out what is what on thursday.
Hello, unfortunately I can't make the meeting on Thursday, so it would be amazing if some kind person on here could post or let me know what was actually said and the general feeling of the meeting? i would be very grateful! Obviously I would hope to receive full minutes and a copy of the presentation from Eileen, but it would be good to get the parents perspective.
I would like to ask the director a couple of questions, but it seems that you are not allowed to go direct to her and all communication is vetted!! The emails sent out so far intimate (to me anyway..) that two teachers are partly to blame for the demise of the ofsted rating, after all they have been suspended pending further investigation. Does anyone know why they have been suspended? Eileen has given us a huge list of qualifications and experience that she has in nursery management, which is great, but does anyone know if vjollca and belma had the relevant and appropriate training and qualifications for the role? Were they realistically given enough time to perform well in the role? They were both promoted from child care to management which are 2 very different jobs. I just want the right people to be accountable as it would seem very unjust for them to take the blame and be investigated if the directors did not invest in them sufficiently in the first place. Did the director put the management team together on a shoe string - is orange more about profit than reinvestment? These are all questions the director can answer, so I do hope she will be there at the meeting!
Bhavna Patel is, we are told, "out of the country". I cannot recall her attending the nursery on any public occasion.
That is pretty shocking - I notice from the report that its a company called N8 properties who own the nursery - is this her business? She clearly has little concern for the wellbeing of the children in her care which concerns me hugely, I also have some sympathy with the two managers that have been suspended - they appear to have been made scapegoats in all of this mess - is Ms Patel not willing to stand up in front of a lot of very concerned parents and accept her part in all of this? She seems to happy to take my payment every month.
I would also point out that its totally innapropriate to announce to parents that the two managers have been suspended - they havent been through any formal disciplinary process and the allegations may turn out to be unfounded- imagine the impact this may have on their future careers. The more I hear about Orange and the way its being run the more it sounds like shambles I will be e-mailing Eileen today and asking why the Director is not accepting accountability. Interestingly this has been picked up by the local newspaper perhaps worth a follow up story with them on the Directors refusal to attend...
