Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Any other Orange Day parents out there worrying what to do about the just published 'inadequate' Ofsted rating?

Their letter to all the parents about this says Eileen Rumble has been returned as Interim Manager but chatting at Harringay Market today i was told she's only back part time, does anyone know if thats the case?

That letter also said Eileen would be  corresponding with all parents by the end of last week but we've had nothing yet, has anyone?

Thanks, doesn't sound very perfect though does it, replacing the old manager with three people sharing the role. They need one person to take charge and sort it out.

We're also in the same boat. Our daughter only joined three weeks ago and it took us some considerable time and effort to find a nursery we would be happy with. We had a chat with the deputy manager and were less than impressed with her explanation.
We'll go along on Thursday but we're actively considering our options. It can't be all down to missing paperwork as a lot of the criticisms seem observational.
Actually my wife has just told me it was her that you spoke to at the market.

Hmmmm am also very disapointed to have had no communication. Its a really difficult situation for all parents - our little boy is really settled and happy and his room seems really well structured and from reading the report a lot of the criticism seems aimed more at the older childrens areas and lack of learning opportnuties so i am really concerned that as he grows and moves to other areas of the nursery he is not being developed properly. I do feel very let down, like everyone else it took me a long time to find what I felt was the right nursery and this report is quite concerning.  Orange is also very overpriced compared to other nurseries in the area and we are clearly not getting what we are paying for.

I will be there on Thursday very keen to hear what theyhave to say for themselves I want to give them a chance to sort this out but I think we will have to start thinking about looking at alternatives if  things are not improving - really looking forwrd to that!

I still have nothing from the mtoday which is not great - was prepared to forgive a day late but to have nothing again today. I think all of the children I see there seem really happy and well looked after which is partly I chose it plus they seemed really dedicated to the learning aspect so I really can't understand why they have scored so badly - there are clearly a lot of things going on that perhaps we are not aware of.

I will totally support a move to reduce fees I can't believe they feel it acceptable to continue to charge parents such high fees on the back of this!  Thursday night will be very interesting! I do really hope they can turn things around the thought of trying to find another place is just too stressful!

My son left a year ago after 3 very happy years (5 days a week) and I'm sure his teachers will agree with me stating that he's pretty brilliant(!!!!!); my daughter is starting in a month. I'm a bit concerned about the email last week from the Director too. However when I visited recently to arrange settling in days I saw that several of the staff my son had been close to were still there and it generally felt fine. A lot of my teacher friends say the gut feeling you get when you're at the nursery/school is the most important thing. I have yet to read the report together with the July one in order to compare. I can't make it on Thursday but will send some questions via email. What prompted the visit so soon after the last inspection?

My understanding from this post is that issues with the nursery started 2 years ago when several of the staff left at the same time. There's also an interesting comment by Eileen Rumble. Unfortunately we did not see this forum when researching the nursery which would have allowed us to raise these points with them.

The deputy manager insisted that there was no trigger for the inspection just months following the previous one. She said it was standard process by OFSTED. The mind boggles.

Oh dear this is very worrying - wish I had seen this before...

Maybe tIme to start looking for somewhere else I think. I can't honestly see how Eileen can turn this around working two days a week what a shame the staff in my little boys area are lovely!

ooooh check your inbox your e-mail has arrived....

along with your invoice :)

I know slightly cheeky...

I am very concerned as to how a manager can work two days, manage the day to day issues as well as implement an action plan that addresses the issues raised - and yes you are quite right, using other staff as manage cover means that they will be unavailable to the children - how is that going to help!!! One of the big issues and only real problem I have come across is understaffing, I really feel for the staff there some days I only hope that they employ more staff - on the money we are all paying out they can surely get more staff! Yes THursday is going to be a very interesting evening. I think a lot of people will have a lot to say

Just out of curiosity... how much are you all paying?

The fees did used to be on their website but the link is broken now. It varries depending on how many days per week, how many children, and how old they are. For 4 days a week for a 1.5 year old £61.40/day, and for a 3.5 year old £54/day, minus a 15% discount for having 2 children there, and minus the EYFE free hours works out about £1600/month. Though childcare vouchers pay for some of that. Now you know why i'm always wearing such old scruffy clothes John.

we pay £1064 a month for a 4 day week for a 1 year old _ its crippling! but as we both work FT (I compress FT hours into 4 days ouch!  and we commute from Turnpike lane its location is ideal for us, we also really struggled to find any other good nurseries locally with spaces.

I was interested in the new proposal to have fewer childcare staff in order to pass on cost savings to parents - I wonder if Orange will take advantage of the fewer staff concept and I very much doubt will lower their prices
