Veolia failed to collect rubbish again. And again..
Surprise surprise. Came home tonight to find my recycling bins still full. They were meant to be collected this morning.
What is it this time? Snow? (gone!). Rain? (didn't rain). Cold? (not that cold this morning). Forgot? (likely) Could not be bothered? (even more likely). Sheer incompetence (Spot on!!).
I am so incredibly bored of complaining about something that should be SO SIMPLE! Get there, grab the bin, empty it. And if I hear they're "behind because of the snow" then someone really needs to ger sacked. Does anyone know how long these idiots have left on their contract?
They also take weeks to clear dumpet rubbish when reported, and I am incredibly fed up with their purple sacks they seem to leave everywhere for days and days.
VEOLIA, YOU REALLY ARE RUBBISH.

Had an email via the LCSP today. I think we all understand the disruptions to the services over the last few days:
WASTE COLLECTIONS DURING SEVERE WEATHER
Severe weather is affecting waste collections this week, with icy pavements and side streets causing problems.
The council and waste contractors Veolia are aiming to complete the fortnightly refuse collections scheduled for this week wherever possible, and will attempt to pick up recycling at the same time.
Collections are likely to be one day behind, with the aim today (Tuesday) to pick up Monday’s scheduled refuse collection, and so on, until the backlog is clear and normal schedules are resumed.If necessary the crews will work on Saturday to catch up.
If we are unable to collect some or all of your recycling this week we will make a double collection next week. Please try to compress bulky recyclable items like cartons and cardboard boxes to make sure that as much recycling as possible fits into the recycling wheelie bins and bags.
Cllr Nilgun Canver, Cabinet Member for the Environment, says:
"I hope residents can bear with us. Our teams have done a great job keeping the main roads and transport links open, and have managed to treat and grit town centres, hilly priority pavements and busy thoroughfares. Some less busy side roads and pavements have become icy and it is difficult to gain safe access to their bins or to carry bags over ice. We will do all that we can to clear your waste and refuse as soon as possible. Thank you for your patience."

Some roads are have been quite slippery and the delay in rubbish collection may be to avoid the risk of a big truck sliding into parked car ... or worse.
The other night walking home from Crouch End to Stroud Green, I and some others eventually managed to push free the car of one woman who had slid her car to be at right angles to the pavement. The rear wheels were in the gutter and she had put bits of cardboard in front of that pair of wheels. Not appreciating that her car was front wheel drive.
One of those who helped was another woman who on leaving (by car) managed to spend several minutes sliding around with wheels spinning, at the top of Elyne Road before gaining traction.

Nope, did not see any of that, and I still think Veolia are full of shit blaming a dusting of snow from last week for them being COMPLETELY AND UTTERLY USELESS. It also seems they managed to collect the rest of my road just fine (oh, aren't they clever little boys), but not mine. So the snow excuse is pointless, and they've just showed how useless they are. Again.

Annette I don't know about the circumstances of your particular road, and why you might have been missed when the rest of your road was collected. And I hold no brief for Veolia. However, its not so much snow that is the 'excuse', it is snow that melted and then re-frozen as glassy ice. This is hazardous.

On Falkland this morning the Veolia trucks were like London buses; they all came at once (even those who had no business in our street).

@Billy Hole: bit unfair to assume I've not been in touch with Veolia a number of times, isn't it? Of course I bloody have, I'm not a complete idiot. Every time they promise to collect ASAP, and every time they fail to do so. It's happened 4 times now, I'm missed altogether. And only have to hope for a collection next week. My neighbours recycling was collected, so why the house next door should be so much easier to get to than mine is beyond me. I stand by what I say, I think they are COMPLETELY USLELESS. Oh, and a lady at the call centre informed be once that collecting bins was highly skilled work. And got very miffed when I p'd myself laughing down the phone, I thought she was joking. Binman academy, anyone?
I wonder if they think mine is really tricky as its end of terrace and that confuses them???

So I have his nonsense stock reply from Veolia: Thank you for your email received on 23rd January 2013. Severe weather
is affecting waste collections this week. It may not be possible to
provide normal refuse and recycling collection services from all
kerbside households through this week. We will focus on trying to ensure
we provide the fortnightly refuse collections that are scheduled for
this week. We will try to provide the weekly recycling collection
services this week but this may not be possible for all households. If
we are unable to collect some or all of your recycling this week we will
make a double collection from you next week. Just in case we are unable
to collect your recycling this week please try to reduce the amount of
waste you produce and compact cartons and cardboard boxes to make sure
that as much of your recycling as possible will fit into the recycling
wheelie bins and bags.
But if they can't tell me if they're coming or going this week because of a tiny snow fall last week, how am I supposed to tap in to my psychic powers and predict their failure to collect and reduce my recycling accordingly that week? Should the amount of recycling I produce now be reliant on the weather? Will this come in to force if its too hot or too wet as well? too windy? Leaves on the line? will that apply?

I suggest taking your rubbish upto Veolia's officers and disturbing it into all their office bins.
Its a logical choice to spread the load of your problem... And who better to pick, than the people that caused you the problem in the first place.
