Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Crepes just like Muumia used to make them from Svetlana and Georgi

Georgi and Svetlana who opened the Delcious Katmi Creperie on Green Lanes yestreday

After reading Michelle's post giving us all the heads up yesterday, I dropped by Harringay's newest restaurant on my way home today and met with our new neighbours.

Husband and wife team Svetlana and Georgi came to the UK from Bulgaria with a passion to share one of the secrets of Bulgarian home cooking.

"We wanted to do something different", Svetlana told me. "In Bulgaria we all grow up with our muumia (that's mum to you and me) making us delicious crepes. You can't find it in London, but it's so delicious and people don't know what they're missing out on".

I didn't have time to stop and try one, but if Michelle's feedback on her sample is anything to go by, it sounds like they're well worth trying.

I may well drop by tomorrow after the Harringay Market Cashmob - in fact I may even take the mob with me!

The choice looks good and the prices seem quite competitive

Agnes,

Your post inspired me to write about my recent visit to Delicious Katmi- I have to say I'm so very pleased that they have added new pancakes to the menu - in fact I really like the new simple paper menu its layout is far more appealing than the kebab shop style looking menu. I've tried the goats cheese with marmalade of onion and I've also tried chocolate with nuts both were far far superior to the one I ate on my first visit- not too thick at all, and presented beautifully on a real plate (hurrah!)  I notice that they now offer different types of coffee too. I took a friend with me one evening, sadly we were the only people there..it felt odd eating in an empty cafe. I think your right to mention the music and furniture its not very welcoming, would be good if they had a few magazines or newspapers, and a few comfy chairs.. and removed the kebab style posters in the window, but the most important thing is that I am converted - I like their friendly service and great pancakes I will make it my weekly treat on route to Harringay Market.

We tried out Delicious Katmi the other day and enjoyed the crepes very much. We tried a savoury and a sweet one and both were great, plus the hot chocolate was fantastic as well. (There's also crockery now, for those who care about that.) Svetlana was very friendly, and it was sad that there was no one else in the place except for us (though that might have been because it was early-ish in the day).

Please, people of Harringay - go and support this new venture. If we want a more diverse high street then we have to actually spend money in these new places. The crepes are excellent value and they're very filling. These people deserve to succeed - help them to do so!

I'm ashamed to say that until being prompted today by empyrean_aisles post and all the other people posting here, I hadn't tried the Delicious Katmi pancakes. We finally went today.

Verdict: Very tasty, excellent value - we had two small size pancakes that would be big anywhere else for £3.80 and £4.00.

Goat's cheese, spinach and onion marmalade

Mozarella, avocado, tomota and green pesto

I'll definitely be going back and happily endorse the other recommendations given above.

Svetlana told me that today they've had their busiest Sunday ever. That's good news. And in another piece of good news, she also said that they're planning on investing i a fancy schmancy new coffee machine very soon.

- for the record - another delicious Delicious Katmi today!

I went back for the first time since they've expanded the menu and the fare looks really yummy; there's now a Xmas Katmi too with turkey, stuffing and cranberry! Svetlana also said she's going to get highchairs soon.

Thank you very much to all of You for the lovely words you have said, for all the support!

We would like to wish you to have a Merry Christmas and an amazing  New Year full of love, joy, health and dreams came true...

        Cheers

                Georgi and Svetlana

Popped in today with my 4 year old son - I don't think I have ever seen him eat so much!! He finished off a cheese one, followed by chocolate and banana; my goats cheese, spinach and caramalised onion one was also great. Music was relaxing and in the background - a great lunch with very friendly owners, but we were the only people in there.

Seemed to be a fairly reasonable sized back room that isn't used - maybe some sofas, low tables and a few children's books, puzzles and they could capture the massive parent/toddler market, and keep them separate from those who are not so keen!

Certainly needs supporting - keep up the good work!
