Excellent, thanks for the heads-up, Stephen. Now the dilemma is where to see it. Ally Pally? Haringey? FP? or even Kings Cross as it arrives. Decisions, decisions!

There used to be a good view of the line from Finsbury Park, near the tennis courts. I say used to because I haven't been there for a couple of years.

If it continues south through Cairo to the Cape I'll book a seat.

Awesome. Which station has the best view for a 3 year old & where would you stand? I wasn't thinking of King's Cross. Advice gratefully heard. Thanks

Not sure! Alexandra Palace South bound is OK - might be better views elsewhere though. A comment: the steam trains coming South can be delayed... (thinking of the 3 year old)

Thanks Stephen.
Stephen. I hope you get some great shots for the blog as I will miss it going through. There is another A4 going through on Sat 8th on it's way to Lincoln for the Christmas Market. At least I hope it's still going as a group of us are booked on to it so I can view Haringey from the train for a change! Chris

Not sure that I will be around for the train. It's a definite maybe.

The Lincoln trip on 08/12 is organised by The Railway Touring Company and is booked to be hauled by A4 60007 "Sir Nigel Gresley". However, RTC's website advises that the loco failed en route to Newcastle to work the Newcastle - York leg of today's (Saturday) RTC "Tynesider", but A4 60009 "Union of South Africa" is still OK for the York - King's Cross leg. Don't forget that the empty stock+60009 could well be worked through Crouch Hill en route to Southall for servicing, returning later for the 18:18 departure from King's Cross. Lets hope that "Gresley" can be repaired in time for next Saturday when it is booked to work a return RTC trip from York back to Cambridge.

As well as the RTC King's X - Lincoln trip on 08/12, Steam Dreams are running a "Cathedrals Express" from Southend & Upminster to Oxford with BR7 70000 "Britannia". These Southend trains have always been routed over the Barking - Gospel Oak Line, so hopefully this will be no exception. The route/timings should be on the Steam Dreams website a few days before the tour.

The other good website is http://www.uksteam.info

You are right, this a good website. I see from this that 60009 is booked to Southall via the North London Incline at Camden Road (Headcode 5Z53 Copenhagen Jc. 15:55, Gospel Oak 16:05, Willesden Jc High Level 16:19).

I hope 60007 will be given the green light in time for the Lincoln trip as well on the 8th!
