Thanks for this Glyn - the map is very interesting. As you say, 'care must be taken when reading this report', it would be interesting to see a map of 'actual incidents' to compare against the 'perception' map as there might be quite a difference. Do you know if there are plans to make this info more accessible like in the US eg. here and here.

There is a site which purports to show actual data for all sorts of stats including crime in London. Its a tad tricky to navigate and I haven't yet found out what it uses as the source of its data.
One of its maps has been published in an easy form on the CASA website (the slider at top right changes the opacity of the overlay). This clearly shows the ladder as being a hot spot of robbery, by contrast to the areas east and west, but not quite as bad as the areas to the north east and top the south.
The Haringey Independent has published an article showing that overall crime in Haringey has dropped by 4% or 1100 cases.
The American data is extraordinary - there was an attempted robbery in Haight Ashbury on Frederick Street on 18th April - every incident seems to be available for public view. Its hard to know if that sort of information represents power for the public or is an intrusion into the victim's distress.

It is good to 'get the ball rolling' but, as you say, the source of the data is unclear. Also, what is the 'mean' level of crime for an area and how does this relate to population density?

Does anyone trust or Believe any Goverment Figures on Crime

We hear and read that the Police are reporting more and more people for crimes
But Goverment Departments are not pressing Cases - something to do with Prison Shortages

Hard luck if you are the unlucky ones being effected by Crime
