Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Hi there,

Having safetly negotiated the primary school selection issue, I now have to face secondary schools...

My son has fallen in love with Gladesmore after being taken there by his primary school for various amazing IT projects.

I was wondering what parents think of the school - strengths and weaknesses would be great if anyone is up for letting me know, and the children it serves well and those less well. I'm imagining no school is perfect for all kids...

Thank you.

Could you give me some more detail on the amazing IT projects?

Hi John,

In year 4 he went to Gladesmore to learn to make podcasts and to programme robots. Gladesmore are very strong for IT and I think have exceptional schools status for this (beyond outstanding).  I'm sure their website will tell you more....

If it was the same thing our Kids did a few years ago - it was a lego robotic programming  project from what I remember - My Daughter loved it.

Are you quite near the school Liza? I'd heard it was very popular and effectively had a catchment of under a mile?

I don't know anyone who is currently there, sorry. I don't have to worry about this yet, but am not looking forward it - good luck to you and your son!

Hi Alison, Thanks. We're probably not in catchment - but it varies from year to year.....

I have spent some time with Gladesmore students through work and from what I have seen they are really good students. The school council is excellent and they run a whole series of weeks throughout the year that follows their REACH ethos: Respect, Enthusiasm, Attitude, Co-operation and Hardwork. The senior management team seem extremely capable and inspiring, in particular Mr Djemali. There is also a really good feeling to the school. Hope that helps!

Thanks Laura, can I ask what your work involves?

I work with schools doing projects focused on recycling and caring for the environment. The project we did with Gladesmore was an attempt to improve a litter problem in the surrounding area.

I know a few people who have sent children there and they've never had any complaints. The GCSE results are always good and there children all seem to be doing really well.
Allison is right it is a really hard school to get in but apartt from that its a good school. I live very close to it and I never hear of any of the students being rowdy or cousing trouble
