A few weeks ago, at the seed swap event, a few of us were talking about the Open Gardens events which take place during spring and summer. And we got to talking about whether there would be any interest in having an informal version of our own - a day where a small number of us could have a nose around each others' gardens.
It would be aimed at people who are interested in finding out what can be done with a similar space/soil/aspect, or who are just curious about different gardens and what people have managed to do. The gardens wouldn't be remotely 'perfect' (certainly not mine) but I'd personally be really interested in seeing what other people have managed to do, talking about what does or doesn't work for them, and getting (or even giving) advice.
What do others think? I guess it would work by people expressing interest here and then us agreeing a date some time in June/July. Depending on how many people are up for it we could have specific time slots so that everyone who participates gets the chance to look at other people's gardens ..
What do you think - any takers?! I can offer up my recently unlawned garden to anyone who is interested ...

Hi,
I think this is a very nice idea. However I am likely still be in my N15 maisonette in the early summer (am moving to the ladder in the summer hopefully). People are more than welcome to see my medium sized N15 roof terrace though.
As a professional gardener, I am sure I could offer some free advise on landscaping etc on a open day (if required).
Cheers,
Matt
Cheers Matt! I think seeing a roof garden would be great - some inspiration perhaps about what you can do when you don't have any open ground (like lots of the front gardens around here, mine included).
I think this is a great idea Alison. I hope it gets some support.
I'm sure your garden would be a star attraction Hugh .. Can we count you in too?
It might have been worth seeing a few years ago.
Are you thinking about something in the Summer?
I should be happy to receive interested visitors. Kids can come too as the garden here is big and has various things that interest children while parents are looking at boring old plants. I should like to see some other gardens too but probably not on the same day as people come to mine.
As to dates, I can do any weekday in week commencing Monday 30th April, and any day from Sunday 20th May to Sunday 27th May inclusive. If these don't suit, I shall be able to find some dates in June.
I was thinking June/July but May/June would probably be better in terms of gardens looking at their nicest...
I was thinking about the same thing Alison but never got round to it, so, thank you. I am very keen to get some ideas how to improve my garden. I also have some plants to share. Weekends for me too..
Hi Alison
I would definitely be up for this and am looking forward to it already. Lets hope we keep getting the rain otherwise my garden may be a bit Sahara like come june and july. Even with all this rain recently I've still got bone dry areas!
Cheers Sam
