MISSING (CATNAPPED?) CAT SEYMOUR/HEWITT
It's day 3 of no Patch, our white cat with black splodges. This is deeply uncharacteristic of him as he is very dependent on the affections of his brother. On rare occasions when his brother has gone out without him, he meows constantly until they are reunited. When he goes out, he never strays beyond the gardens over the back from us, and sits on the shed roof of the one behind us, and always meows and comes back when called. So I don't think it's overreacting to say he is now missing.
I suspect someone has him in their house, as on one very bad night last week (extreme wind and rain) they were both out all night, and when I got them back in, they were warm and bone dry.
I have attached a picture. Patch is mostly white, with black splodges, including one on his head. He doesn't have a collar on at the moment. He is likely to be very upset without his brother.
He belongs to my daughter and has only been with us a few months after our much loved cat was run over.
I strongly suspect he is somewhere on Hewitt Road, or Seymour.
Can you please keep an eye out for him, have a look in your gardens and outbuildings and if you have him, please do the decent thing and give him back. He is not a stray. He is a very well looked after and much loved cat - OUR cat.
We are very worried and the kids are desperate to have him home, so please please help us get Patch back where he belongs with his brother. And if you are tempted to feed cats that don't belong to you, please don't without first doing all you can to establish if they have a home, it causes great distress to everyone.

sorry to hear this, i will keep an eye out for him. he looks like one of my boys so i would definately notice him. is he friendly with strangers? and likely to go into a strangers house?
hopefully he will find his way home soon.
Annette (who has posted on HOL before about searching for cats) said to go out calling for them at night as they may be more likely to come out then if they have been hiding (e.g. if something has spooked them). also I would advocate putting posters up to say he's missing.

Thanks Sally. He's a bit timid, but when he was out recently over night with his brother, they came back warm and dry when the weather had been horrific, so I suspect someone is encouraging them.
He will be desperately missing Ziggy and I know if he was outside he would be meowing. We've been out all hours of the day and night calling him, shaking the food box etc but not a peep.
He's a lot more forward than Ziggy, so I think he would come to someone and would go in if he was given food.
I think we'll have to go door to door and I'll put posters up. I'm certain he would have been home by now if he was out there, even when they don't want to come in, they usually just sit on the shed roof at the back where we can see them.

gosh if they came back warm and dry then they must have been somewhere close by. I really hope they were just under a shed or something rather than in someone's house. my boy goes out and sometimes smells of cooking when he comes back, like he's been in someone's kitchen! luckily he obviously gets let back out to come home. hopefully, if someone has patch, they won't keep him for long when they find out you are avidly looking for him.
do keep us updated with how you're getting on. will keep my eyes peeled.

Will keep an eye out, how old is he? He looks young.
If you suspect someone is feeding them, I would keep them both in for a few weeks once Patch gets back. Might help break the habit of them going elsewehere, if that's what's happening. If they're not chipped I would get that done too before letting them out again.

Hi Justine,
He's around 8 months. We've been out calling all hours of the day and night. His poor brother Ziggy was meowing for him all night. I'm printing flyers now to distribute.
We don't let them out, it's just that recently they have on occasion decided to run the gauntlet past the dog and into the back garden. But they never go far and always meow and come back when you call them, we haven't heard a peep. Ziggy was out with him the first night but came back - he is much more timid and less likely to go to someone.
I really hope we can get him back, my daughter has not long lost her old cat after he was run over, she adores Patch and takes him to bed with her every night. I just hope if someone has him they will let him go, he must be very distressed without Ziggy.

After some door to door flying this morning, a very kind man just called to say that our poor Patch is dead. He was found in his garden and seemed to have been ravaged by a carnivorous animal, I'm wondering if it was that fox I see day and night.
Sooooo very sad, just a few months after Elvis was run over, and not looking forward to telling Holly when she gets home tomorrow.

oh no that is awful! i'm really really sorry to hear that. poor patch, you, ziggy and holly.
i, and others, have suspected for sometime that foxes are getting young cats on the ladder and now we seem to have proof. very sad and worrying times.

Oh Cara, I am so, so sorry! That's just horrible. I cannot believe the bad luck you have had. I've been on Seymour for 9 years, and have had cats the whole time. And nothing's happened to them at all - bar the odd disappearing act. Not even when my last lot were old and weak, the foxes left them alone. I have heard stories about foxes taking cats though, and this seems to be the proof. Thinking of you, can imagine how upset you must be.

It's really awful, I really thought someone was feeding him, I never thought for a minute the fox would have had him. Poor Ziggy was meowing again all night and seems to be looking all over the house for him. Really don't know what to do for the best, whether to get another one or not.

Maybe someone was feeding him, it's entirely possible. There are a lot of silly people out there..
If you do decide to get another cat maybe look for a friendly, older rescue cat, who is a lot wiser than then young ones. You may then be able to avoid any more heartache. Just a thought. And when you're ready, of course.
