You'll notice in the photos https://www.google.com/search?q=wandergeselle&hl=en&client=... how the Gesellen are welcomed.. They are respected and it's considered good luck to shake hands with them - just like with chimney sweeps (Kaminkehrer) who are also Gesellen and also still wear similar outfits..

Oh, I  can't leave this subject alone..

I also remember singing 'The Happy Wanderer' at Woodlands Park Infants (now Chestnuts) School - The song about Wanderburschen  http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wanderjahre

'Mein Vater war ein Wandersmann' 'und mir steckt's auch im Blut' :o)

Perhaps that's what got me into German?

I don't think that was me, Matt. A different Hugh (hue)?

it was me. you can read the article here.

Did you read the comments? I know the N29 was bad but being compared to Mos Eisley was quite harsh.

At least when you had a new baby you knew normal sleep would return at some point. Or if you were on a flight to the other side of the world you did not actually need to sleep as there was a bed at the other end.

As for this: "You do feel for them, because one day it could be me, it could be any one of us in that situation.", I always suspected that some of those bus drivers were actually just doing it for the money.

'Big Man' is charged. The man who dealt with a fare dodger by throwing him off a train is charged with assault.
