Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

I'm really saddened to hear that despite huge opposition (online & written petitons and formal consultation) it looks like Jamboree Play Hut will be closing at the end of September. It seems that Haringey Council is unable/unwilling to continue funding this local resourse for parents and their children now that it has stopped the extended services grants for children. This means that not only will families living around the Finsbury Park area no longer be able to access the information, support and childrens play facilities available here but a Haringey Council/Capital growth/Transition Finsbury Park funded growing project will no longer be accessible to the community. What a waste. We will have another boarded up neglected building and another part of Finsbury Park abandonded and untended. We have had a tremendous amount of support in our attempts to keep the centre open including a number of supportive features in local media but it seems that part of Jamboree's success has actually been its down fall - its location in the Park, on the border of three boroughs means that no one wants to take responsibility, despite the fact that its location means that it is very accessible to a very diverse mix of people, & representative of the local community.

That is really sad news. Very short sighted decision.
Really depressing news.  As I said in my letter to Haringey which no one replied to, Jamboree was a lifeline for me and my partner when our boys were pre-school age.  Great art activities, big outdoor space, friendly, welcoming staff.   We were there most days.  It really made a positive difference to our lives.  And the growing project was a wonderful addition.  What a loss for Finsbury Park and the local community.  Thank you Juliette and others for all your campaigning to keep it open.
