Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Estate residents caught a fly tipper in the act and helped convict him of illegally dumping waste into domestic bins on their council estate.

The tipper was convicted in Haringey Magistrates Court on 31 August of dumping controlled waste into domestic waste bins on Tiverton Estate Fladbury Road N15.

This followed months of concern as residents of the Tiverton Estate, N15,regularly found their large bins were full only shortly after being emptied. Some, wrongly, believed that their bins had not been emptied at all, but Veolia contractors had indeed made their regular pick-ups.

Then, earlier this year residents spotted Spires filling their bins with waste from his truck. They confronted him and took pictures of the bins and his truck and reported this to the estate manager. Local police then traced Spires and arrested him.Council Street Enforcement officers then interviewed him and referred the matter for prosecution.

Spires was sentenced to a 12 month conditional discharge and ordered to pay £500 costs. He could also face a hefty fine if he commits a similar offence in the next 12 months.

Good job he wasn't an eleven year old who stole a rubbish bin during a riot or posted an incitement to riot on Facebook. He really could have been in trouble then.

Good grief.
