I got a note through my front door the other day to say we can now get BT's super-fast fibre-optic broadband service, Infinity. It would be an extra tenner a month on my current service so the question is:
- has anyone installed it? If so, was it a hassle? How was the engineer installation service?
- does it make any noticeable difference to your internet experience?
- have you had any problems with it?
- would you recommend it?
Thoughts and comments please!
Thanks
I got it a couple of weeks ago. No hassle - engineer turned up on time. Internet connection is fine although really I don't need the extra speed since I don't download music or films much. Skype is possibly better. I was a bit annoyed that the engineer left after an hour without getting the wireless connection working to my laptop, leaving me to work out that I needed a new dongle for the upgraded system ( N instead of G ). Once working, the wireless connection seems more reliable.
I agreed to take Infinity on the basis of a telephone call from the BT agent who assured me that it would be cheaper than my existing BT broadband. I await my next bill with interest and some scepticism.
That should be given in the BT note through your front door. There are different options, one with free weekend telephone calls one with free anytime and different data usages.
Just checked my Infinity.
33.7 Mb download
7.9 Mb upload
At least, since getting Infinity in, the BT junk mail and phone calls have stopped :-)
Useful thanks. I am not getting anything like that with my broadband and I like the sound of watching iPlayer on the TV. One of the things that frustrates me about iPlayer is that it keeps cutting out on my current system - so thanks!
I got Infinity a few months back and it's seriously changed my life. Before that I was on regular BT broadband and couldn't get much over 1Mb download - almost as bad as dial up. I now get between 32-35Mb (wireless), and suddenly the internet is like it should be. Downloads take seconds and streaming movies or iPlayer is seamless.
The engineer was great, and didn't leave until everything was working on my laptop - which didn't take long. I pay £25/month with no download limits. It might be a little pricey, but it's worth every penny.
Thanks John. Lots of BT vans in our road lately, no doubt dealing with new clients resulting from the leaflet drop mentioned here, which passed our house by (as most junk mail does).
Did they change wiring inside your flat, from outside to your hub/ computer inside?
Just tried BT Chat online; waste of time. Didn't know Infinity was in our area!
Thinking 40GB (per mth?) will be enough. Link to 2 options. Actually 1 option if you have a BT line already. Confusing! But same price as Virgin, only 4 times faster.
Hi Anna,
OK thanks. We have a brand new BT phone with ans machine (as old ans machine died). Socket will prob need replacing and wiring as you have of course. As we already have a BT line BT seem to be giving one option only at £25.60/mth (broadband only) but unlimited useage. Assume this is what you went for? (or were you Virgin all-in)
