What about all the small businesses that were destroyed by looters? What about the artist whose burnt down flat contained all her college work, sketchbooks and paintings? People like that are being forgotten about. If these pictures assist the police in catching looters then great. If the police catch looters on the basis of these pictures then great.

And when those jailed come out? What happens to them then?
Perhaps some people will say: "That's their problem. They should have considered the consequences etc". But in fact it's still our problem. And if you don't accept that it's an ethical problem ("He that is without sin"), then it's very much a practical problem in the large tightly-packed cities we live in.

@Osbawn, so what do you think of Kenneth Clarke's comments this evening?
I liked Michael Gove's "there but for the grace of god go I" comment last week. Very honest.
For what it's worth, I'm only here typing this now because either I didn't get caught when I was younger or what I was caught for was considered "misbehaviour" rather than "crime".

Thank goodness not every one shares your views... otherwise Harringay children would grow up as clones and clonettes of Cameron and Julie Kirkbride.. two very upstanding tory MPs of good upbringing who never did anything wrong.. did they?
