Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Nasty cautionary tale for people trying to have a sly smoke on the London Underground.

If you've a strongish stomach read this entry on the Going Underground blog.

Funny how you assume that people who smoke actually want the best for themselves...

Does anyone believe this turkey ?

'forced open the doors'... er there's a door handle.

'fell through the gap'... .. he is 4.5 inches wide ?

'1.30am'... .. . a metropolitan train at 1.30am ?

'Police believe his death was an accident'... .. . weirdest murder ever ?

'MSM news'... .. . This is journalism at its desperate best.

this post is 52 years old.

Hmm, I hadn't noticed these points but now you come to mention it, they do seem a little unlikely. I'd be surprised if Going Underground reported inaccurate information though, Annie Mole really knows her stuff.
Thanks Abi - It's too serious a story for me not to check a number of sources.  I originally found it in The Sun  but did not link to it as the headline & by-line to the picture made it look a bit of s joke & sensationalised.  The MSM news was the most sober of the publications at the time.  I later also found the story on the BBC's website with a comment from BTP - hardly think they are likely to make it up.
Thanks for dropping by and letting us know Annie.
I can confirm this is definitely not a made up story.
Thanks Matthew.

"I am so not walking between carriages any more. It's interesting that this is actually illegal on the subway in Chicago."

It's also illegal here.  Byelaw 10, part 3, states, "No person shall open a train door, or enter or leave any train, while it is in motion or between stations."  Plus there's a big sticker on every connecting door saying 'risk of death if used when train in motion'.

Still very sad though.

Interesting, I never knew it was illegal here too.  I will update the blog post.  Thanks.
What are the odds he was completely plastered? I would say he got what he deserved, but being decapitated is a little harsh even by my standards.
Anette, surely you're not going all mushy and soft on us?

OAE, you're right.

Note to self: Toughen up.
