Forensic psychiatry is a speciality within psychiatry concerned with helping people who have mental disorder and who present a significant risk to the public. It covers areas such as the assessment and treatment of mentally disordered offenders, investigation of the complex relationships between mental disorder and criminal behaviour and working with criminal justice agencies to support patients and protect the public. Forensic psychiatrists work alongside many other services including the police, probation, courts, Crown Prosecution Service and prisons.
So now you know!
I really don't know - mentally disordered offenders could cover a range of criminal offences. But if so, it will be a secure unit so they can't get out and pose a danger to the public.
I suppose they have to be held somewhere and if they are known offenders they will be heavily monitored unlike the ones at large in society...
my doctor's surgery complex is there so that's why i'm curious..
Mine too - you mean John Scott? - but that could be a plus for the 'unit'. Probably no need to cry wolf, or even whisper Wolfson.
