Just to warn people that we were broken into yesterday in broad daylight (around 6 p.m.). I was away but from what I've heard it sounds as though it was pretty opportunistic. According to neighbours there was a man out on the street shouting, presumably testing out whether people were at home. Only one of my housemates was but she was at the back of the house and didn't hear anything. He then threw a brick through the front window, climbed into the house and took a laptop. We don't think anything else was taken.
Hopefully this was a one-off but keep an eye out.

I've heard about this happening in Crouch End area.
Hope your flatmate's OK, Victoria. The burglary happened above the canal, half way through Dr Who. It made such a racket that people on both sides of the street came to their windows. Two bypassers confronted the burglar as he emerged with the lap-top tucked under his arm. Other neighbours called the police. The burglar became aggressive when confronted, shouting and swearing. He ran down the road towards Green Lanes, and escaped into the passage. Brazen is definitely the word.
Thank you all. My flatmate's fine although a bit shaken, as we all would be. It sounds like the guy must have been on drugs and if he was aggressive, as you say, it was fortunate she didn't disturb him while he was in the house. Pretty scary stuff though. I can't believe he headed down the road rather than up to Wightman.
It's heartening to hear that neighbours were looking out for us - not always the case in London! Hopefully this will be the end of it but I will definitely be more vigilant from now on.
