The member map shows the roads that have members in. It doesn't show how many members are in each road so can't be used to judge member density by geography. About 75% are within the blue boundaries.
I'm not going to argue with you around the pre-eminence of HoL, though as I've said, you need to figure stroudgreen.org in there. It's got a buzzing trade. My point was related to the effects of HoL. I don't think it casts a rainshadow. Of course, I'm enthusiastic about the role that local sites can play and I know you are too. I didn't mean to challenge your commitment to the cause. I just didn't want your comments to put off any folk from Tottenham.
Could the lack of N8ers be anything to do with them not being able to sign up/in? I've tried but it doesn't send me a link to my email address so I can't post.
Someone has had the audacity to refer to the magnificent Dunn's bakery as "factory produced" in a discussion about the new Gail's bakery. I'm itching to stand up in praise for Dunn's lovely bread and their magnificent rhubarb pastries. Factory produced! Tssk.
I'd like to throw in my bit if I may, coming at it from a slightly different angle. As a fair few members may know I sort of bumbled my way onto HarringayOnline and took a bit of flack being an estate agent (BOO) but I love the concept of local folks working together (and local businesses if willing). This really empowers the community to mould and shape the area into a place that they want to live in. It may seem like a slow process at times, but it can also happen remarkably quickly in the grand scheme of things. We seem to be living in times of instant gratification but there is more than one way to invest in an area. We all make a difference!
From a personal point of view I grew up in Tottenham and also went to school there, I have worked in Wood Green/Harringay most of my life and later invested everything I had in the Harringay branch of Castles. Together with a partner I have owned the franchise for 17 years now! We have recently jumped at a very untimely offer to also take over the Tottenham Branch of Castles. Once again we have invested everything apart from our shirts and it is going well considering the current financial climate.
I have a few old school friends and none of us would have been able to answer a single question on university challenge...
... That said, we all had a 'Tottenham type pride' and have worked remarkably hard in our chosen professions. We are planning to get together (in the not too distant) and arrange some talks with current pupils at our old school... something along the lines of having achieved good careers but doing it the hard way and that they are capable of achieving so much more if they make the most of their education and opportunities.
Anyway, I have made it a bit of a personal and business mission to help people discover more about Tottenham, the gorgeous architecture, the history and generally the positive aspects of the area rather than just the negative stuff that many seem to fixate on. We all know the negatives and we all know negatives can be found in all areas! A local community website will help bring balance and achieve this.
There is a lot of really positive stuff going on around the area, indicators we call them, such as a great deal of development and business investment near Tottenham Hale, we are also noticing a fairly sharp increase of clients selling flats in Stoke Newington and buying houses in South Tottenham. Then there's the fact that Spurs are likely to be investing millions into the area etc.
So... I would certainly be happy to get behind a more localised website and community, especially when local folk are committing their time, effort, and effectively their futures into the area. Tottenham deserves one in my opinion and I can pledge to help steer all new residents to the site as I often do with HarringayOnline.
For what it's worth I think this is a great idea.

Hi Will
Always happy to discuss rogue boards on this site, as I have on so many occasions. By all means send me an email steve@castles.uk.com I will respond with my personal mobile number.
In the meantime, you can report any rogue boards to the Ombudsman for Estate Agents who (unlike the council) have the resources to follow up if the agent fails to deal with them effectively.
Will
The rules governing estate agents' boards are set out in the Haringey council website - ( search "estate agents " ) http://www.haringey.gov.uk//index/housing_and_planning/planning-mai...
Basically it's one board per property, " Sold" or "Let " boards are to be taken down no more that 2 weeks after the sale or granting of tenancy.
If you want to report an Estate Agent board you feel maybe breaching the law you can contact planning Enforcement on 020 8489 8236.
Yes a good idea but not sure how to resource it?
People are slow to engage with things
E.G. last year I set up a neighbourhood watch in Crossfield Road and despite all I try to do only 4 people have signed up - including me!

There are so many lovely residents/families residing in N17, its so crazy, we only link up via HOL or dog walking or having babies. We are here! Maybe I need to talk to Liz and get HOL widened!
I guess we do seem anexed.
Best
