I think this is an excellent idea -to the extent that I have set up a site for N8. The public response has been underwhelming - even my chosen few reliable contributors have vanished from the face of the internet. If you'd like to see my sad monologue it is here http://opinion8.ning.com/.
There is also a nother local site which is getting on better than N8 http://www.bowesandbounds.org/forum but it too I think suffers from the pre-eminence of HoL.
Just reflecting on your comment Omotn and I really don't think what you call 'the pre-eminence of HoL' has much to do with the success or failure of other local sites hereabouts. Locally we have the example of stroudgreen.org going great guns just next door. Go down to south east London and you can't move an inch without stumbling over another lcoal site or blog. There it's been proposed that successful local sites breed others.
I'd hate for your comment to put other people off starting up other local sites because, I'm afraid, I think you're just plain wrong on this. So, take heart budding webbies of Tottenham, t'aint so hard.
I still believe in the pre-eminence of HoL. It is eminent in that it wins prizes and came before B&B and OpinioN8. Pre-eminent (adjective- eminent above or before others; superior; surpassing)
If HoL were not in this position, certainly within Haringey, Gina would not be seeking endorsement and support on these pages.
. The member map clearly shows a geographical spread covering much more than just Harringay, with almost as great a density outside the blue line.
I'd hate for my comment to put other people off. "I think this is an excellent idea." How much more positive do I have to be? Maybe I could go as far as copying the whole idea! Imitation is the sincerest form . . . .etc. I offer a couple of examples (N8 - learn from my mistakes) and B&B (doing better - learn from what they have done right) and someone interprets me as being negative . It must be the way I tell 'em. Which is perhaps another factor confining me to a monologue.
Some more positive notes:
