Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

I know what its like to be desperate for a  wee on the way back from the pub late at night for example or if you're a woman when you're pregnant etc..   but this morning about 10.30am I was pushing the pram along the passage only to find a man weeing, he wasnt being very discreet either, so I had to reverse and walk down to Green Lanes. Very annoying when you're in a rush and simply unpleasant.  Is it acceptable do you think for humans to wee in the passage along with the dogs?

So tolerating pissing in public is progressive?

You choose to live in Germany where perhaps attitudes are different. If we have different standards where we choose to live  it doesn't make us hypocritical or prudish. You sneer at us because we are " knee deep in litter ". You must have missed all the posts complaining about litter - far outnumbering those about urinating in public.

Be grateful that the UK and Germany are different - otherwise there would be no reason to go and live in Germany - but don't snipe at us because our view of what is acceptable differs from yours.

Don't be silly John, the point I was making is that it all was 'Übertrieben' or OTT.

Ringing the police to tell them what had happened. - Is 'pissing' so prevalent?

Yes, you're right.. we do have differing views and we certainly don't have the same relationships with our bodies as the Brits tend to have. The repressive 'ashamed of it' view.

And BTW, your much flouted prohibition of 'urinating' doesn't seem to have had much success , has it.. ?

Lastly, It wasn't me who singled out Germany.. It was Birdy and he, no doubt, was talking about his experience outside a football ground where there were, I imagine, up to 50,000 people.

What he was saying is that people take something like that in their stride and don't pretend to be shocked!

That's a foul Anne.. The incident occurred on the Harringay Passage, probably the most private place anyone could find in that area if they were to be 'cut short'

It certainly wasn't a children's playground..

What does poor Germany have to do with it again? I have no idea where you get your silly ideas from, throwing in arguments other people will have to accept because they simply don't have the chance to question your "expertise" as a Berliner is not helpful. As if the British would not be able to decide for themselves if they like to see people pee in their public and make it tolerable and acceptable. Unfortunately for Stephen the facts are slightly different, although in certain areas of Berlin or Frankfurt this might be seen differently, i acknowledge.
Urinating in public will certainly not be considered a damage of property for which the German criminal code stipulates a sanction.
It will also not be considered (as such) an indecent exposure which is a sexual offense according to the German criminal code.
However, urinating in public (e.g. according to the Bavarian authorities Steven loves to invoke) is an offense according to § 118 Offences Act (harassment of the public).
Other municipal regulations all over the country can and will be in force introducing fines for this offence. Just the idea Germans would blabber about freedom, tolerance and progress when they face a person pee on the street in front of them is offensive and ridiculous. Imagine Stephen, same as in Britain, 95% will find it disgusting and unacceptable. And amazingly in Germany fines are enforced, a very educational lesson you should give a try here from time to time.
By the way, the normal fine with the local authorities in Munich would be about 35 € at the moment.
I never brought up Germany ..Steffen But seeing as you commented and with you expertise as a Sachse don't you think that Germans don't go about things differently?

Stephen ... stop taking the piss.

You obviously love all things British otherwise you wouldn't be on this site so regularly telling us how to live our lives.

Check back - nobody except you suggested ringing the police. I would agree that they have more serious matters to deal with.   Education is my suggested answer.

Speaking of which, did you mean "flouted " or "flaunted " ? The prohibition is certainly flouted :-)

yep, flaunted and tschüß

Chron's disease and IBS are actually quite common. Holding on when you need to go can cause "health issues". We're really just railing against the nasty, smelly foreigners on Green Lanes here aren't we?

Do the bookies have toilets? No, thought not.

Lager is for cissies. The real men round here drink White Lightning at £1 for two litres.
£1 for two litres! You're going to have to name the shop. Google Maps ref will be fine.
Anne, do you think the bookies would let their customers, who would rather pee their pants than let someone else start putting coins in their FOBT that hasn't paid about for 2 hours and is about to go manic, use their toilets? Given what they do in public when they lose?
