2012 Olympics ticket prices announced
The organisers of London 2012 this week announced that be up to 8.8 million tickets available for the Olympic Games. 75 per cent of these tickets will go on sale from March 2011 through a public application process.
Details of the ticket pricing strategy include:
1. A wide range of ticket prices including:
- 90% of tickets at or below £100
- Two-thirds of tickets at or below £50
- 2.5 million tickets at or below £20
2. Full-price tickets starting at £20 for every Olympic sport.
3. A special 'pay your age' offer. Young people who are aged 16 and under (at 27 July 2012) will pay their age for a ticket. Seniors aged 60 and over (at 27 July 2012) will pay £16. These 'pay your age' ticket prices and senior ticket prices will be available at one-third of the 640-plus sports events.
4. Opening Ceremony tickets start from £20.12.
5. The price of a ticket for a wheelchair space includes a companion seat located next to it.

Like that 'pay your age' thing for under 16's. Looks a good idea, and might help make it slightly more affordable for families on lower incomes - will still be a struggle for many though.
Curious to know where exactly they'll be 'seating' you for £20 at the opening ceremony when the top-priced ticket for that is in excess of £2000! Wonder if high-powered telescope or safety harness will be included?!

Wonder when we'll get a chance to look in detail at the events list before tickets go on sale March 2011. For our family the minimum price will be £60 (same as a westend cinema outing... well, in Leicester Sq). At a 'village' event that might be OK but, not at something like rowing, out Windsor way.

Maybe Will - my dad was at the Beijing opening ceremony tho and said it was incredible. He's not a big sports fan so I guess perhaps that's one which might appeal to less sporty Londoners who simply want to soak up the atmosphere and get a flavour of the games. Hubby was at the Barcelona games and found many of the minority sports were even more fun to watch than the big draws (athletics, swimming, etc)
