Harringay online

Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

It is really sad to say that last week the pollution was back to their usual levels - high.

This is why it is serious - PM2.5 causes severe health risks as its small size allows it to enter deep into the lungs and enter the bloodstream. It causes premature mortality, cardiovascular diseases (heart attacks, strokes), respiratory illnesses (asthma, bronchitis) and lung cancer. Long-term exposure poses the highest risk, significantly reducing life expectancy

We are not OK with this... we are furious.

I definitely noticed it last Sunday (26th) - I took my baby out for a walk around 4.30pm, down the passageway from Allison Road to Finsbury Park, but I had to turn back early once I got to the park. I usually go to Chesnuts Park at that time of day and I really noticed a difference going parallel to Green Lanes instead. Had a headache after 20mins out, could see visible haze over harringay and felt it in my chest. I only remember the date as I messaged my partner about it feeling polluted and needing to turn back early, cutting baby's nap short.

Excellent work highlighting this Alice.

And, an excellent time to highlight.

Copied over from a website:- What causes the haze over London
The haze over London is primarily caused by wildfire smoke, high humidity, trapped pollution, or dust carried from distant locations. These factors scatter sunlight and reduce visibility, leading to a milky, white-gray appearance. Wildfires are a dramatic source of haze, pushing smoke thousands of feet above the ground and across the atmosphere. High humidity can cause airborne particles to swell and grow, while trapped pollutants from vehicles, power plants, and manufacturing can accumulate near the ground, creating a stable, stagnant environment with little vertical mixing. This can lead to the formation of fine particles and further exacerbate the haze.

We will get many more hazes when the weather is hot so, without any disrespect to those who suffer, be kind to yourself and take some self help by wearing a mask. I say this because although we wore masks during Covid to avoid spreading the disease they worked two fold and also helped many people with respiratory problems. The latter is probably the reason why I still see people out and about today wearing masks. I know this is not the solution but it will give you some relief.

Pretty sure that's London, Ontario. Canada.
