Is there already a discussion running regarding the Haringey Draft Local Plan ?
This is the latest one produced by Haringey and it clearly affects Green Lanes and the Arena retail park.
https://haringey.gov.uk/planning-building-control/planning/planning....
(The closing dates for comments is 19th December)
It looks like the plan is to close the Arena Retail park and replace with high density housing (high rise flats?). T
I know Ian from Ladder Community Safety Partnership has made some comments and shared them with the group by email and it will be discussed at the meeting on 16th December.
Are there any other discussions going on ?

The local plan also puts Rowans at risk. As you say deadline is this week to reply.

Trees can be replanted. More trees can be planted. Rowans are great, I have one in my garden.
Is the proposal that the big Sainsburys be converted to housing as well?
yes. The land will be repurposed. Presumably there will be a super market still but below a block of flats, like the development in Hornsey Rd where the told tip used to be.
The plan is that there will be a smaller Sainsburys only. All the other shops and the petrol station would go.
Daft. If there was insufficient need [demand], the big Sainsbury's and its associated facilities would not there, paying substantial rents and rates. Haringey Council cannot afford the compulsory purchase costs so why is it wasting our time and money on this aspirational nonsense?
I believe because it has to. Any council that doesn't have a plan that shows how it hits housing targets and that covers enough of the borough can have plans imposed top down from Whitehall.
IN this case, the local council may be the lesser of two evils.
But, this is the planning department that once advocated the "under-grounding" of the bus depot at Wood Green (?!) The Local Plan is evidence of municipal detachment from the needs of residents now and in the future.
One of the aspects of the local plan for Harringay Ward, would be the council's long-sought demolition of Rowans for housing, coupled with the seizing/swapping of Metropolitan Open Land (i.e. Finsbury Park).
If it came to pass, it would wreck any wider consideration of the Finsbury Park station area as a whole, where I understand Islington is the lead planning authority. Haringey Council is an island among neighbouring Boroughs and co-operates little or not at all. It comes down to (the local) leadership. The London Mayor or the Government may one day need to step to halt Haringey's half-baked schemes.
Today, London Centric publish, What's going on with Rowans?
.
The local plan isn’t just what a local authority intends to do itself but also an indication of what future use of sites may be. So if a site comes up for sale or redevelopment the local plan indicates what would be an acceptable use for it.
For the immediate area, it all seems to be a rehash of very familiar stuff that's been proposed for well over a decade now.
Linking St Ann's Hospital Site to Gardens/GL
Linking Gardens to Arena through railway arches (community garden?)
Turning Arena into mixed use housing/retail/leisure
Creating an entrance to Finsbury on NE corner (Endymion/GL)
Residential on Jewson site
Making the warehouses more fit for habitation
etc etc.
These plans, while important in some respects, are very often thought experiments that end nowhere. The land and properties involved are generally in private hands... or worse, a National Rail or TfL type entity.
