Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

IN our Borough, the Haringey Community Press (HCP) performs an important function, quite apart from a free Press generally being a vital part of any functioning democracy, local or national.

The current Haringey Council Leader has not always been happy with HCP's independent reporting, such as this earlier spat about housing repairs:

There is no suggestion that the Leader sought to ban "this outlet". However in Nottingham, Farage's Reform Party has gone much further than merely criticising a press report.

Nottinghamshire Live is part of the same Local Democracy Reporting Service as HCP.

The actions of the Reform Party Leader of Nottinghamshire County Council—like a few other UK politicians—are consistent with or seem to copy, the relentless abuse of the Press and other US media, by the proto-fascist on the other side of the pond.

After reading the article I was pleased to see that 38 Degrees has started a petition against this attack on freedom of speech by Farage and his minions.  Wether you agree with him or not on other issues it would be well to look into the darker side of his other policies which would be akin to rise of Fascism/Nazism in the 1930s and totalitarianism in some parts of the world in this day and age.

IF FARAGE were to become PM, there would be the possibility of a Trump-style assault on the fourth estate. Trump's UK ally is now in the tricky position of either telling the Nottinghamshire Reform Council Leader to accept the need for a free Press, or staying silent and appearing to be comfortable with the Reform Council's ban on Nottinghamshire Live.

I note in the article that the Nottingham Live stream is BBC funded. As the corporation is notoriously anti-Brexit (and thus anti-Reform/Farage) and renowned for its misinformation, this non co-operation comes of little surprise.

The BBC will almost certainly be pushing these minion local jounalists for 'gotcha' point scoring rather than professional reporting.

Martin, here's some more BBC reporting on Reform Party representatives, that you may exercise you.

I'm not a fan of Kier Starmer, but I think that threats against his life are wrong.

'Gotcha' point-scoring or professional reporting?

Clive, threats against the lives of politicians are unacceptable. What happened to poor Sir David Amos shows where such things can lead.

I'm sure you are therefore equally concerned about the actual attacks on properties linked to Kier Starmer by three young Ukrainian models who had Grindr accounts.

All the news is broken. Just stick to Twitter and Substack - low censorship environments.

1. If Fox News, the Washington Examiner, GB News, OAN, etc were to attempt contact with anyone in Labour, the Greens or the like, an interview or a response assuredly would not be given. Why are you not championing the "free press" in such instances? I don't seem to recall any posts about Ofcom's abuse of regulatory power against GBNews on Harringay Online.

2. There is no obligation to speak to the activists who call themselves "journalists' when it is a fruitless endeavour to do so. Engaging with such malcontents is akin to trying to reason with someone who readily uses terms like "proto-fascist" for agitprop effect.

3. Please define "proto-fascist". I am very curious to know if it's the same as "semi-fascist" which I have been called by Joe Biden. Or are there nuanced differences that only the erudite Left would know?

4. Question: If the "proto-fascist" has engaged in "relentless abuse of the press" how come he has won some $100 million in various defamation suits against that "press"?

Because of the New York Times v Sullivan case, it's exceedingly difficult for a public figure to carry a defamation suit against the media. As plaintiff (claimant), that means the "proto-fascist" has the burden to to show "actual malice or reckless disregard for the truth". This is incredibly difficult, when on top of the high legal standard itself, a majority of the US federal judges are leftists(*).  Even against this stacked deck, the "proto-fascist" just got $25m from YouTube this past week.

It sure seems like he's the one that's being relentlessly abused.

(*)Don't take my word on the fact that the federal judiciary is stacked with Leftists. Take the word of the Democrats themselves.

What does the ruling with regard to New York Times vs Sullivan have to do with Reform and Nottinghamshire Live?

Please define "proto-fascist"

I find the web is a great place to look up definitions of words and phrases.

Wikipedia's helpful entry on Proto-fascism is here.

Also, there's a discussion here about Trump:

Is Donald Trump leading a proto-fascist movement?

He may not be Hitler, but he's sounding a lot like Mussolini

.

Meanwhile, our very own buffoon of an MP has claimed that Farage flirted with the Hitler youth when he was young. This is despite Farage being born about 20 years after the end of WW2!!!!

Hmm. Iris. I thought you lived somewhere in Enfield? Am I mistaken?
Anyway, who is your Member of Parliament? What did they say? When? And where can I find the precise wording?
Thanks,

Alan
