Hello there!
I have noted that there hasn't been any recent activity relating to bats events. Does anyone know of a group in the local area? I am starting to do some surveying but prefer to do it as a group. Monitoring will be done with eyes only as I don't have a sound detector.
Thank you.
Marette
Marette!
I invite you to consider dropping a note about Bats to The Friends of Finsbury Park!

Hi Marette,
We have Batmen and Batwomen amongst us!
Also, consider calling-in on the folk at Edible Landscapes (inside Finsbury Park, c. 100m from the Manor House entrance. They are bat fans.

Hi Laura, Thank you but I have gone down with a head cold and sore throat bug so too late to attend. Another time! Marette
Last year I took part in the Night Watch survey run by the Bat Conservation Trust, see: https://www.bats.org.uk/our-work/science-research/passive-acoustic-.... I expect this London only survey will be repeated this year.
One of my two surveys took place in my garden and the other one near the footbridge over the New River nearest the Wightman Road gate.
There was very little activity in my garden but the second survey showed almost continuous bat activity foraging over the water and above the trees on the railway embankment where floodlights attract many flying insects. On a warm, calm night from dusk onwards, standing on the footbridge, the bats can be seen quite easily against the night sky and they probably roost either in the older trees or inside the large brick tower that stands a short distance north of the bridge on the east bank of the river. My own hand held detector produced a continuous chatter of calls and the all-night Night Watch detector showed that the bats were a mixture of both kinds of pipistrelles with the occasional appearance of another species.
Hi Dick,
Thank you. I am doing the BCT Sunrise/Sunset Survey. I know the path you are talking about and as its not difficult for me to get to, I will give it a go! Marette
Sorry to say that for the last few days access to that stretch (between Hampden Road and the Wightman Road gate) of the New River Path has been closed off. Best wait a day or two for them to reopen it.
