Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Our local piano shop is featured in a video embedded in this BBC article...

No wonder there are so many people getting rid of pianos. Such a shame though.

Thanks for the heads up Germana. Here's a photoblog I did on Reid last year. And a few snippets on Harringay's piano making past.

Realise I first posted this only in the comments on the blog about Reid Pianos, so adding here as well.

Sadly the Reid Pianos business appears to be shutting up shop in its current incarnation at least. The whole site on St Ann's Road is up for auction at the end of January, explicitly for development (with planning permission granted). I hope the developers are kind to the street-front buildings (not just the facade).

I'm sad to see that the buildings aren't even locally  listed. So we have to hope they survive.

yes I was surprised too. I think they are part of a conservation area though?

sold for 5.8m

That’ll make a decent pension fund.

Watching the BBC video of John destroying the piano stirred a childhood memory of my town’s ‘Carnival’ day in the 60s. At sometime in the local park’s ‘arena’, after the marching bands and the Police dog display, there was as competition between two or more blokes to break-up old pianos with sledge hammers - winner required total destruction of the piano but I don’t remember the prize for doing so. I haven’t thought about this pointless destruction alot since the 60s but, sadness aside and considering we also had a piano in our best room at the time, I think this article has kinda helped me process and understand the logic of it all. Interesting and informative as always. Thanks.
