Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Sorry, just a joke there in the title.

But there is a real point to it.

Does anyone else, like me, have just a tiny feeling of unease about these guys running training camps in the middle of Finsbury Park? Don't people have, like, a say in what outfits are and are not allowed to use park facilities?

In case you are wondering what the heck I'm banging on about, pop down to the park right now. You'll probably find three or four trainers in military fatigues (really) putting a lot of sweaty nice north London types through their paces. (Then again the heat may have put a temporary stop to it... I don't know, I'm still at work.)

I just feel very slightly concerned that this group is allowed to use the park for profit and also use the cafe (well the back part of it) as well. Does the Friends society have a view? What about HoLers? I've Googled it a good bit and can see only positive comments about BMF. But are they "fit" persons to be using our park?...

What time is it on? I wouldn't mind having a go
My mate goes, we do take the pee though. The parks are used for everyone, many fitness companies use them, football for kids down on Chestnuts, Fast fitness walking pushing prams in Priory and Ally Pally.

I don't like the term military fitness either, but my prejudices shouldn't stop them using public parks.
Lee, here's a link to the times of the finsbury park classes

BMF is good stuff - certainly not for the fainthearted as Will says, but good fun. I think it's excellent that so many fitness groups are using the parks across the borough, and it's great to have groups of local people exercising together
Palestine?!?

This is Harringay Online! It's about local issues! I've obviously missed something... or other.

I don't think obesity is a local issue either, or at least not a chiefly local one. The nice young people being slave-driven around the park by Sgt Rock et al look pretty trim to me, if a bit red-cheeked.

But it seems I am in a minority of one. Oh well, guess none of you will be joining me in an open-air Buddhist reflexology session on the training field in the park this evening then. Looking forward to seeing the RSM's response when he finds me on his turf, ha ha (not...)
John - given the choice of a squaddie or 12 hours of chat about Unix systems, I know who I would be going home with!! he he
They do a free trial. Maybe you should go and see how little you have to worry about.

I joined two weeks ago and I love it. It's actually very democratic. Not everyone is super fit (I'm certainly not) , just trying to get fitter. And I have met some very friendly people there - not like a lot of other stuffier, cliquey places I've tried. It's brilliant. Basically just circuit training and a lot of running. I've not been shouted - it's more that you try harder because you don't want to let everyone else in your group or team down.

Surely all those positive endorphins have got to be a good thing! I can't really believe that anyone would have a problem with it?
Ha!

Was it your group I passed yesterday on my bike, hot and dangerously sweaty in the burning sun? (the group, not me. Well, maybe me as well).

Hope I didn't put you off with my (jokey) shouts of "let them off, it's hot!"

The RSM pretended not to hear...
