Is anyone else being driven to distraction by the constant high pitched beeping from vehicles on the site? I think I might actually go mad if I have to listen to it for the next 5 years

Hi Kate,
I can't comment on the level of noise since I'm not near the construction site, however if it is really disturbing you could consider approaching the contractor, explaining how/when the noise is disturbing you and ask if the vehicles could use/be fitted with white noise instead of beeps. As I'm sure you are aware beeping or white noise is a health and safety requirement for vehicles reversing on construction sites.
White noise tends to be used on construction site vehicles for major infrastructure scheme if/when works are required and approved by the local authority as essential re health and safety outside standard construction site hours. However the contractor might consider such a request, particularly if they are a member of the Considerate Contractors Scheme.
The hoarding should have contact details of the contractors.
For some reason my edit didn't save (sorry)....the contractor may also be able to reassure you re how any beeping noise will reduce/change over the duration of the project in the part of the site closest to you.
Failing the above (including the previous post) you could contact the Councils environmental health officer for a discussion.
Hi,
I am sorry to hear it, as noise can have a terrible impact on our lives.
I had a similar issue with my neighbours, who are refurbishing the whole house since one year in order to rent it out. However, building construction companies are always out of money and time and routinely try not to follow the rules. So, it is good to contact them and the competent authorities (who need a push, too, but do not be afraid to contact them more then once, as they will probably gaslight you the first time - it is their interpretation of the word “mediation” - but they are obliged to listen, investigate and act consequently).
