Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Ghost sign revealed on St Ann's / Salisbury Roads (soon to be organic shop & wine bar)

This old Ghost Sign is on what used to be Andreas Michli's greengrocer that stood empty for many years. Apparently it's going to be an organic shop and wine bar.

Nice sign showing an old, presumably Jewish -owned business.

Maybe Hugh knows the background?

I’m sorry to hear that the sign’s already obscured, but it’s funny you should talk about confusion…

Kentish Town and Stroud Green kebab restaurant E Mono actually took its name not from its owners but from a long-departed previous business on the same site, when the creation of their first shop, in Kentish Town Road, revealed the beautiful hand-painted original signage — possibly 30s or 50s — that had been concealed behind the much newer Pepsi-branded fascia of the (rather good) greasy spoon they took over. Alas, their current iteration uses the E Mono logo but is a back-lit plastic panel; I hope the original signwriting is still preserved on the shopfront behind, to be revealed again — just as H Caplin is here — by yet another refurb sometime in the future.

I remember that shop as a glaziers in my time....1950-70.
