Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Very sorry to see that one of the beautiful pink flowering mature cherry trees is going to be felled on Sydney Road. I certainly hope it will be replaced.  It was always such a joy to see its clouds of pink blossom in the spring sunshine - I shall really miss it! The notice claims it is infested with some kind of fungus. Sadly there are hardly any of the older street trees left on our road now.

A little more on this here

It's strange how evocative this site is. I had almost forgotten those wonderful trees on the ladder when I was a child, I think they were probably quite low on my radar other than something I crashed into on my go-kart or bike. Now as I get older these things seem to take on a different level of importance, and where I have very little idea as to how many cherry trees are left it's a shame to hear of their demise. Happy New Year.

When we first moved onto Sydney Road in 1999 the street had lots of trees. All the talk of planting new trees never materialises -  the council even sending out requests for residents to sponsor a tree, you fill in the paperwork and never hear anything back :(
