Lovely memories of past times in Harringay and in a different UK.
i was six years old at the time living in Hermitage Road and my most important memory of the Coronation was that it was the first time I saw television! We did not have a TV ourselves but were invited to a friends house for this special occasion.
Very memorable day - with lots of jelly, cakes and lemonade!
That is a "lovely slice" of Harringay history Pete. Such simpler times then reflected in choice of sandwich fillings, all staple offerings of the era. And the simple amateur looking printed programme. I was just 4 years old at the time and all I seem to remember is we had a big trailer lorry halfway up our Harringay Road where folk assembled in fancy dress. My Sister was draped in black and white crepe paper representing Queen Victoria. We did have a photo but unfortunately it was taken by my Sister on her emigration to Australia, Boxing Day, 1966. But I'm sure it looked like a professional photo so maybe, somewhere in newspaper archives it may exist ??
And how poignant is that line on programme front : "Long May She Reign"
And I accepted the invitation!
