CABE last month released a short report called
Ordinary Places. Its premise is that while city centres have improved over the past ten years, the ordinary places - the parts of town where people actually live - have been relatively neglected.
Get past the patronising guff about enabling the common man to participate in the debate by teaching visual literacy and it's useful report. If nothing else, it opens up the right debate at the right time.
