Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Hundreds of pubs doomed to closure could be rescued under Government proposals to help to fund “community buyouts”, promote local beers and cut planning red tape.


Ministers will announce today that they will match money raised by residents to buy the freeholds of ailing pubs and provide business support to help to set up post offices, shops and restaurants in the same premises. The move follows growing concern that almost 40 pubs are closing every week.

Do you know what the implications of that are?

It appears to mean very little. "listed status" is the official system. Note that Alexandra Palace is given as an example of a Grade II listed building. I suspect Clive has been editing Wikipedia in the wee hours.

It means that John & I might turn up outside the Queens Head with table and chairs and share a pint .... because we think our local shouldn't be closed. It merits more than that surely.
Surely, even in these hard times, you could run to a pint each ?
The Beaconsfield and the Queen's Head?

What about the Salisbury? Was the building Paul Simon "accidentally" demolished a "building of merit"?
