Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

I am Ladder resident Paul McKay of the Lam Association. I have 30 years' experience of teaching tai chi.

Recently, I was approached to run a series of free tai chi-in-the-park events in Harringay and Hornsey.

They will run in early July, mid August and September:

  • in Fairlands Park on Saturdays 1-2pm
  • Priory Park Thurs 1-2pm

The sessions are part of Haringey's People Need Parks programme. There will be a launch event this Saturday with free a taster tai chi session.

  • 26 June 1-2pm at Lordship Rec.

For all dates see the Haringey website.

Tai chi combines deep breathing and relaxation with flowing movements. Originally developed as a martial art in 13th-century China, tai chi is now practised around the world as a health-promoting exercise.

Countless studies have shown that tai chi has proven health and wellbeing benefits. It is shown to reduce stress, improve posture, balance and general mobility, and increase muscle strength in the legs.

Read more on the NHS website.

The aim of the entire People Need Parks programme is to encourage people who are less active, over 50s, girls and women, people with disabilities, and BAME communities to get involved. If you know someone who may benefit please tell them.

If you are interested in attending any of the Tai Chi sessions, please email me to let me know.

this looks fantastic. is it for any age?

Hi Yvonne

if it’s full on rain then there won’t be a session. A spit spot here and there, like we had at Priory Park today, will be ok. We’ll play it by ear and things may change between now and then

cheers Paul

Hi - this sounds great! I've been considering tai chi for a while now as have dyspraxia, arthritis and hEDS and tai chi is recommended for them all.

The only thing is that I'm not available every weekend - would this be a problem?

No problem Sharon, only proviso is I prefer people to email me if they’re intending to come on a given day so that I have an idea of names and numbers.

That sounds great - thanks!
