Has anyone struggled to get smaller bins from the Council?
Council will not downsize my bins to the smaller size due to staff deeming them to be inadequate for my household of four’s waste disposal needs. This is based solely on the the number 4, no other information has been asked of me, such as age and demographic of the household. I challenged this and was fobbed off on the liaison service who were supposed to contact me. They didn’t bother with that and just emailed to say my case was closed.
I contacted our 3 ward councillors - Gina Adamou, Zena Brabazon, Sarah James - in October to intervene on my behalf but didn’t receive a response from any of them.
Speaking with neighbours, this issue of Haringey not allowing people to electively reduce their waste capacity, and the lack of transparency on the rationale or understanding of my requirements, predates the pandemic.
I guess I will just tell them my household has reduced to two occupants (assuming that’s the magic number) but I shouldn’t have to resort to that tactic considering generating less waste is widely accepted as desirable. Why are there barriers to make this difficult?

I was rather hoping as we pay through the nose on Council Tax, and the large bins could be reused elsewhere, that I wouldn’t be charged to swap them for smaller..... Is that a deluded assumption on my part do you think?
TBH, I don't know if they charge for smaller bins anyway. They shouldn't do but then again they shouldn't if one's bin gets broken by Veoila but that doesn't seem to cut much ice.
It might say on the website?
Aware that Veoila will replace, in time busted / dropped bins
But you will have to pay if it gets lost / Stolen. Last I herd , last year
Unused bins are normally held in stock to next request
Can not see the issue, as 140 Litre Bins are not much of a space saver
Hi,
i have sent you a connection request as I wanted to DM you about a potential bin swap,
Thanks!
