Pavement - Slabs or Tarmac
From council Facebook page. it keeps going on about new Slabs being laid around the Borough
From work seen this work is carried out by Contractors
So must be costing a small fortune to to get slabs imported and laid
Wonder if work was Tendered for ?
Personally prefer Tarmac. As from years of past Laid slabs in the borough most tend to rock or flood in short periods of bad weather
Plus many get uplifted by road side trees.
Yes I do appreciate them, road side trees.
But understand it is now possible to use trees that have roots restricted so they do not lift pavement or Road

They seem to need to re-do them every few years thanks to the poor workmanship. They move and crack soon after they're laid.

agreed it's poor worksmanship, there are ancient roman cobbles that lay intact yet with all the technological advances we can't seem to make a paving slab last more than one season. Tarmac is ugly, utilitarian and I quite possibly the surface of choice in North Korea.

Vehicles parking on / mounting the pavement may well be causing slabs to crack, although no doubt it is an issue in places vehicles can't access.

At the start of Autumn, some contractors were laying new paving slabs & cobbles on a pavement near Queens Wood. They were working on both sides of around a 400m stretch of road & must have been there for at least four weeks, if not five. It must be a massive expense to maintain the pavements.

Biggest Joke was when they relaid Wood Green High Road. Took many months and was reported at time sub contracted
Joke was it flooded with first heavy down pour
And has many loose slabs. even aware they have been reported and painted for repair
