Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!
Appalling traffic leaving Sainsbury's and Arena retail park - anyone know what's happening with it?
It took me an hour and 15 minutes to leave Sainsbury's car park today and I had a torrent of abuse from a revolting irate man and witnessed one car screeching up the wrong side of the road, over taking all the waiting traffic, screaming abuse at the hapless parking attendants trying to direct/calm the remaining traffic. I've seen several threads on this but they all seem to be from last year. I've reported the problem to the council (as I hope have many others) but the problem seems to have just got worse and worse. It seems particularly bad this week for some reason.
Does anyone know what is being done or planned to try and sort this out? I'm surprised that there hasn't been a serious assault or incident due to the ridiculously badly thought out traffic lights and planning of the extension of the store.

There ARE two lanes exiting Sainsbury's, one to turn left, one to turn right.

I'm only stuck in traffic at sainsburys green lanes twice a week - First from monday to wednesday and Secondly from wednesday to sunday.

See what you mean - sorry. I notice the traffic marshals guide traffic turning right over the cross-hatched section to form a second lane. The whole thing is a mess.
There should be a second exit.
I once suggested to Sainsbury's that they should put up notices saying
" Car Park Full - Do Not Enter " But, for some reason, they didn't think that was a good idea :-)

Is there any way of finding who was actually responsible for the road exit design ? I'm serious, I would really love to know who it was.
(Not the design of anything else, just the road exit bit.)

Don't get me started on this one - we had a big local campaign to appeal against the original Arena plans. The planning document was a master of spin - whilst outlining an 800-car car-park it seemed to be saying that no extra traffic was expected in the area.
They should have built a crossroads at the corner of Endymion, where there used to be an entry road with a locked gate - but then Homebase built over it anway. I feel sorry for the postmen. -

How about a second exit onto Finsbury Park Avenue - Hermitage road for traffic going south, and a no left turn at Williamson Road exit?

Why not asphalt over the corner of Finsbury Park and build a trolley underpass under Green Lanes..
There are obviously too many stores on the site.. the council should be brave enough to close some down .. build over the car park and plant a bus stop in front of the door..
Yes you've guessed it - this weird British obsession with shopping as if there's no tomorrow - gets me down.. have you all got consumeritis?
Most buy much too much with money they haven't got and then chuck half of it away.. -

So I'm a moronic parent because I used to put my kids on the back of my bike? I have plenty of friends who do this too and I bet each of them could beat you at any kind of "moron" test you'd care to set.
The problem is that some parents believe the way to "protect" their children is to buy a f'off big 4WD and ferry them everywhere in it. Ummm... are you one of those?

I couldn't face the traffic today so I took myself down to Camden Sainsbury's - and somehow bought more and spent less (no, really - well except for £10 on pigging out in the market).

I don't think Sainsbury's would agree to that. As above, they don't actually want to discourage people shopping there.

From last night's BBC2 'Blitz: The Bombing of Coventry' the most prominent sign on the morning after was 'SAINSBURYS STILL OPEN'. The Blitz spirit? Good customer care? Or f--k the Cathedral - we're still in business?
