"Transport for London (TfL) has allocated £22.26m to 24 London boroughs for emergency interventions like strategic cycle routes, school streets, low traffic neighbourhoods and pedestrian space in town centres – half of the total money it has to spend on its active travel COVID-19 response."

What's the logic behind Councils bidding for funding from TfL in order to implement TfL Cycleways?
What is the logic behind applying for emergency Covid-19 funding for implementation in September.
What is the logic in granting funds for 2 metre pavement distancing when the guidelines have already changed and the virus is not contagious out of doors.
I can see two possible logical outcomes
1) by getting emergency funding for Cycleways Haringey avoids paying for something it would otherwise have had to pay
2) by getting funding for a need that has passed Haringey will quietly slide the funds across into another expenditure
It is still the case that you should stay 2m away from people when possible. At 1m the risk is 10 times greater. And it is categorically untrue that the virus is not contagious out of doors. The risk is smaller but still exists, especially when someone is talking and facing you.
And the need for cycleways has existed for 50 years or more.
And if you think Covid will be over by September, you must be drinking the same kool-aid as Boris Johnson.
