Whilst (I believe) the local parties have already selected their candidates for next May's elections, there's still plenty of time to stand as an independent.
I'd be interested in an example of healthy independent politicians (I know there are plenty of unhealthy aligned ones!) I'm not dissuading anybody but I'd be puzzled about why it was that a person with great ideas about a place hadn't joined a political party. But then I am a Labour party member and a union activist so maybe I'm a joiner-of-things anyway.
That's besides the point, Labour have three candidates to chose from in my ward and I don't have to vote for all three. A cat amongst the pigeons is what I want to see anyway.
Julie: do you know if Cllr Haley’s non-selection had anything to do with his failure to honour to his undertaking to a meeting of the Stroud Green Residents' Association a long time ago, to review the extension of the Finsbury Park CPZ, northwards over the Oakfield Road Bridge and which he himself described as “silly”!
The ward met and, at the shortlisting, had an open discussion about the qualities we'd be looking for in the next set of councillors. There was a lot of common agreement. Brian Haley was shortlisted and interviewed. Some people voted for him but not enough for him to be selected.
Some ward members were annoyed about the Green Lanes B CPZ extension, because there were real problems with it last year.
Were the problems Brian's fault? I just wonder how much you can do as a councilor given the restrictions of working with the council and working within your party.
Re Brian's responsibility: I cannot speak about any problems in connection with the Green Lanes CPZ extension (or any failure to honour promises about reviewing that).
However, I can say that although Cllr. Haley may or may not be responsible for problems with the Finsbury Park CPZ extension northwards (up Oakfield), he is personally and politically responsible for any promises he makes in connection with reviewing that CPZ.
As a footnote in connection with problems with the Oakfield road bridge CPZ extension, a colleague (Mr. Paul Stork) has quoted Cllr. Haley as acknowledging he gave approval for this, something that he at first forgot and in respect of the extension over the bridge he said, was:
"Silly"
The silence from Cllr. Haley about this matter has perforated both my ear drums!
You have only seen ONE Tory sneering.
What would be interesting would be to find out what these young, new, talented and positive people propose to change and to what. Is there a Manifesto out yet ?
At least two, in fact. Unless I'm mistaken, Justin Hinchcliffe is the local chair of his party and Tim Caines is the candidate so far selected for your ward.
The manifesto has been the subject of a great deal of discussion and will be out soon. There will be a lot in it for Harringay ward residents to like.
Well I can only find three posts by Tim Caines on the St Anns voter issue and the most imflamatory thing he said was that we were perhaps taking the Tottenham / Harringay thing too seriously. Not a sneer in sight. maybe you can provide an example ?
So often individual ‘A’ of party Z does or says something silly. Then slavish tribal adherents of parties W, X and Y (opponents of party Z) castigate individual ‘A’ as being a typical member of party Z or his actions as being typical of members of party Z, i.e. attempting to smear all of party Z with the misdemeanours of individual ‘A’.

You need not worry. Those that have talked about the possibility of standing as 'independents' have decided in the end that agitating from the outside is much more 'fun/satisfying/productive' or something along those lines.
It's the Green lanes Radical Association that you need to worry about. Now they are an interesting bunch.
