Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Politician questioned by police during Conference

Mr Whittington, once a parliamentary researcher for Tory MP John Baron, was arrested on suspicion of stealing a bottle of champagne.

A police spokesman said hotel staff had alerted officers after seeing the man approach the bar and take a bottle of champagne out of the fridge.

When questioned, he told police there was no-one there to pay so he thought he could pay after having drank it, the spokesman said.

Assumptions of power; let someone else pay.

BBC article.

I also would have taken another bottle of pop (say, if i was mid discussion with a group) if there was nobody around to serve and payed later. It's not like he fled the scene.
He's a plonker. But is this a story? Are Harringay residents really interested in these types of stories?
But is this a story?

The BBC clearly thinks so.
I think this is what the police do when you threaten to cut their numbers. I agree, non-issue but with a "to be hard fought" election looming, get used to it ;)
Dare I say it... whatever! (-D
Not long after Cameron was spotted quaffing champagne. The Conservative chairman got himself in a right Pickle about this as he had warned all members 'not to be seen celebrating with champagne ....'

The Torries of course don't want to be seen to celebrating an assumed election victory. That tory researcher clearly got a little carried away. Poor fellow!
Been Labour he would have filled the glasses with Pomagne : )

I have to agree with you the ban is nothing more than a pubic image exercise to try and create a more down to earth party, which they are not, or most politicians come to think of it.
The image thing:

Mike Joyce, the Smiths former drummer, on Cameron's visit to the Salford Lads Club back in Jan 2008;

"I've heard that Cameron is a bit of a Smiths fan, which is quite interesting. He was once asked what he thought of the Queen Is Dead, but skirted round the question like a politician.

"I think Cameron is trying to change the image of Tories and is trying to be one of the lads - just like Blair did by getting Noel Gallagher into the Britpop thing."
Tom
I am not sure it's theft.
Leaving a hotel without paying the bills for mini-bar, telephone calls, room service etc is theft. Taking a towel is theft but not helping yourself to another bottle late at night with colleagues. had a member of staff been there he would have said 'put it on my bill'.
I don't see anything illegal here. The member of staff was completely wrong to call the police without consulting him first. I have stayed at hotels where certain members of staff are not very helpful and appear to 'hate' customers. Maybe he was ambushed.
FORGET whether he was this political party or that.
Sadly, this particular thread is just about bashing the Tories. See what we're up against? I don't think it's particularly newsworthy or relevant to 'our' patch. Matt's just mischief making.
Justin,

Relax, Hugh's obviously on your side; this light hearted discussion is being kept off the 'activity' panel.

And no, it's not newsworthy at all, just a bit of fun, like you know, having voters on about their local identity!

TGIF and all those boring political conferences are over. :)
Nope, your boy (the one wot you called a plonker) has received a fair bit of support. You're seeing things.
