If anyone in the Harringay hive mind can tell me more about the wonderful plaque at Harringay Green Lanes (almost hidden by the MaccyD's drive-through) I would be very grateful. I'm keen for it to feature on the Speaking Stones audio trail I've been banging on about on my page (and on Twitter @StonesSpeaking). Thank you!

thanks for the update Martin - another twist ! haha
Deborah at Bruce Castle got me thinking about trying to track down coverage in the local press via the British Newspaper Archive. It is at least online and available during these locked-down times. We know the location and (thanks to you) the year, so how hard can it be?
Answer: I haven't found anything yet! But I am on it at least. :D
I’m also very late to reading this post but I’ve enjoyed every word.
I listen to Robert Elms on BBC Radio London Mon-Sat 10:00-1:30. Pre-lockdown her ran a slot called “Notes and Queries” where Londoners shared a query about an aspect of London (could be a building, a bridge, plaque etc). People then phone in if they have any clues or information until the query is resolved. He would love this and it would be great to get Haringey mentioned on his show. Might even get some free publicity for Stepping Stones...
Brilliant idea Lydia. I'm working on a press release (did I mention we're launching our digital map on May 30th? We'll put a link to it here on Harringay Online, or you can find it from our Twitter @StonesSpeaking) and I shall send Robert a copy of it on Monday.
So far, the Harringay Online hive mind has found out a lot about the secret lives of artworks that we see (or saw, before lockdown) every day. For instance, we now know the marble bust in the entrance of The Salisbury isn't Zeus or Poseidon, but definitely Hercules. And the wonderful cows of Cavendish Road can trace their stylistic origins back to the Temple of Vesta in Rome.
And I agree, it would be great to get Haringey a mention. There is so much to see!
I have just mailed Robert about the 'Steam Power' mural. I'll keep you posted on any developments!
Great to hear! I hope he is keen to take this on. He loves his London and has an inquisitive lust for anything fascinating and quirky. He is also an approachable person - I met hin at his book launch, not too many months ago, and he was charming.
A quick Bluck update: the British Newspaper Archive has nothing on our Harringay Green Lanes mural. Sigh.
So I have mailed an enquiry to The Royal Society of Sculptors to see if they can help.
Who would have thought such a visible artwork, signed and dated, would be so elusive?
I think BNA is weaker on more recent dates. Admire your tenacity though.
Thank you Hugh, I'm sure we'll get an answer one of these days.
The Royal Society of Sculptors have been in touch to say yes they have an archive of Judith Bluck's work and they will be 'in touch in the next few days' with more information.
Just like all of us, lockdown brings its problems and accessing the archive is tricky for them in these viral days, but they are working on it.
So Niamh's hawk-eyed spot and our collective suggestions are edging us closer to finding the answers.
this is great news !! eagerly awaiting the update
You were quite right about Robert Elms loving the Steam Power mystery, Lydia.
Following on from your brilliant suggestion, he's asked me on his show for a quick Notes and Queries segment tomorrow at 10:20. Perhaps we'll get some answers from that! I will keep you and the others in this discussion posted.
And thank you for thinking of it!
