Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!

Hi,

I'm hoping someone can enlighten me. Does anyone know why we had a blackout on The Ladder last night for 6 hours? I'm all for saving electricity but 6 hours!!!!

Hi Emma

A letter was posted through our door (Warham Road) saying the electricity would be turned off from 22:00 - 05:00 as they were doing some work on the cables
Yes, we also got a letter last week through the door.

I wonder whether this isn't a particularly effective way of warning people in shared houses/flats - the people in the flats opposite us clearly hadn't seen anything either. Not sure what else they could do though? Notices in the street??
I think thats where our problem steamed from.. not enough flyers through the door to advise both ourselves and upstairs. Thanks so much to yourself and LP for answering my thread so quickly.. I'm finally enlightened.
we had no idea,i went to bed,but i could hear my upstairs neighbours sounding very bewildered, and heard someone go out prob to get candles-oh well
Whereabouts on the ladder?

Can be very common occurrence at the Green Lanes end of Hewitt Rd. EDF have never exactly busted a gut dealing with either the individual incidents or the underlying cause - probably dodgy overloaded circuits in unlicensed HMOs.

Seems to have been much more infrequent for the last 12 months or so, but is naturally worse in darker, colder months.

What you probably experienced is most likely a similar issue.
Next time I'll read the other posts first about letters. DoH!

But the Hewitt Rd stuff holds true, always helps to keep a 2-stroke genny in the basement. That has ensured its never been needed.
