got some bits and pieces that need to be done in our house.
any recommendations for damp-proofing experts and handy-men would be much appreciated.
thanks!

I can thoroughly recommend Abbotts Damp Proofing - Dave Prince is the man in charge. They have a website at http://abbottdampproofing.co.uk/ which gives you all their details.
Yes, I've used them three times now. They damp proofed our ladder house, and did a fantastic job. And they came back a while later to sort out some woodworm problems, and the third time they replaced a couple of rotten floor joists for us. What I like about them is that they don't give you the deep intake of breath followed by a stream of reasons why it's a really difficult job....blah, blah, blah! They just told it how it was. For example, when they did the first major job, a small partition wall turned out to be nothing more than plasterboard nailed to bits of an old wardorbe (I kid you not) and they gave me three different options for dealing with it; and then left the choice to me as to how much I wanted to spend rectifying the problem.

just on this topic - i got a quote from abbots but hthey were a bit more expensive than De Brette's who did a perfectly fine job, so i can recommend them.
