Coronavirus and Liveable Crouch End
As far as we know the Council are still pushing ahead with the Liveable Crouch End project. The results of the January survey are now on the Liveable Crouch End website and the report states that design options will now be progressed and submitted to Transport for London for approval at the end of April, after which the options will be presented to the community as part of a full public consultation in the summer.
The report is attached below this text.
If you agree that the project should be put on hold, please contact email Councillor Kirsten Hearn and Liveable Crouch End and your local councillors to let them know. The more people who ask for this, the more likely it is that the project will be put on hold and we can focus on what is really important.
Given that everyone is under considerable stress as a result of the Coronavirus pandemic, it would seem wholly inappropriate to be progressing the Liveable Crouch End project at the present time or in the immediate future. The main focus of peoples’ efforts and attention is in reacting to this emergency and we are therefore proposing that the LCE project be put on hold until such time as the pandemic has passed or eased to the extent that the project can receive the necessary attention it deserves from residents, businesses and stakeholders alike.
Many businesses in Crouch End, particularly the smaller ones, are already suffering massively from the effects of the lockdown and are likely to take some considerable time to recover. To add to their difficulties by progressing the project at this time would be totally unreasonable and a further unnecessary and avoidable stress. Even more so, given that from the design survey report it is clear that they had the strongest reservations about the design options that will be progressed and the impact on their businesses.
Residents, both in Crouch End and the wider area, who will be affected by the Liveable Crouch End project, will also not wish, at this time of crisis, to have to devote their energies to raising their concerns with the Council and with TfL about some of the design options that are being progressed.
At this difficult time, it shouldn’t be necessary for residents and businesses to have to engage with the Council over this contentious and potentially divisive project. We are asking that the Council put this project on hold until more normal times return, so that as a community we can devote our time and efforts into tackling the most significant crisis we have faced for many decades.

Thanks for posting this, Peter.
Personally, I find the report troubling because in all the interpretive paragraphs, it consistently presents the data in such a way as to present their desired outcome in a positive way. Whether this is the consultants doing so off their own bat or at the explicit of implicit behest of the Council, Obviously, I do not know.
PS: When you advise people to"contact Liveable Crouch End", do you have a specific email address or person in mind?

Yes, I agree it is troubling in its conclusions. This is particularly so as once again the Council have sought to present results in a biased way. For example, regarding interventions on A roads, the Council refer to the potential of some form of closure or control on one of the main roads such as The Broadway. Despite the survey showing that twice the number of residents were against the proposal (60%) as in favour (30%) the council have stated, "Although around 60% of the community do not want to see interventions on the A roads, the remaining 40% of the community either support or remain neutral on the subject, showing a significant enough interest in this option that designs will be developed further to understand if this can work"
One could just as legitimately have written, "Although around 30% of the community want to see interventions on the A roads, the remaining 70% of the community either oppose or remain neutral on the subject, showing a very significant lack of interest progressing this option".
In terms of who to contact, I would suggest your 3 local councillors, as well as Zena Brabazon, who has been active in the threads on this topic and is also the Deputy Leader. We also e-mailed the leader of the Council. Here are LCE and Councillor Hearn's e mails. Alternatively, click the link in the third paragraph in the original posting to compose an email pre-populated with those email addresses.
