Harringay, Haringey - So Good they Spelt it Twice!
Boundary Stone: Warwick Gardens > St Ann's Hospital 60 years after - 2018 & 1958
When I was last in London at the end of September, beginning of October. I tried once again to find the boundary stone which was once part of our back yard. I was hoping that I might be better able to understand it, than I did as a kid. I have a vague memory that London & Jerusalem were mentioned on it, but I wasn't sure anymore. It has been about 55 - 60 years since I was last close up to it, although I had tried in the 1990s to find it, but it was covered by a shed or something like that. Liz also tried about ten years ago to find it for me, but to no avail. Jersusalem had something to do with the landowners I believe.
Sadly, the stone is now virtually illegible and I was unable to get any closer without trespassing in somebody's garden, which I didn't want to do.
The renewal of the wall after bomb damage in WW2 can clearly be seen.

An OS map of the area in 1958. We lived at 69 Warwick Gardens and the boundary stone can be seen as reference point in our garden.
Lastly, it was pretty sad to see that building in such a bad condition overall.

Funny that you should post that now. I happened to take a look just a few months back and posted a photo on the original thread. There was someone in the garden when I went and so was able to ask permission and get a closer photo. Still most of it is illegible now.

You must have had a notion that I had been in Harringay ;-) I didn't get many photos, as it was evening. I got one of me here, because well, my co-walkers made me and I can distinctly remember standing here, shortly before we moved in May 1960, I was talking to the owner of the house (I was 6!), who was up a ladder and was building this/ his own extension. He's no doubt long gone. It's not changed at all. I'm looking a bit rough 'cos I'd walked from Highbury and still had lots to do. ;-)

According to the data on your image, you were there a couple of months earlier than me.
I’d been spending quite a bit of time in the hospital, creating a virtual tour of all the old buildings with access arranged by the GLA.
It’s a shame to see that old building go on Green Lanes. It prompted me to dig around a write an outline history in memoriam.
