What is a Give and Take Day?
A Give and Take Day is a type of community exchange event where people can bring any household item(s) that is in good condition but that they no longer want. These items are then offered for free to anyone who would like them. You don’t need to bring something in order to take something else. There is a set ‘giving’ time, before the ‘taking’ begins with a 30 minute break in between to allow us to arrange the room.
North London Waste Authority has been running Give and Take Days for a number of years. Last year, our events were attended by 670 residents who brought along with them almost 13 tonnes of materials for reuse – that’s about the same weight as 8 cars! Give and Take Days help ensure that items which are still in a good condition are not just thrown away but are offered for free to those that need them.
