Anyone got any idea what happened to the litter bin we used to have on Seymour Road, next to the passage? One day it was there, the next it wasn't. Theft? Council cuts? Something else?

Thank you Hugh, I have been meaning to post about this for a while. I’m not sure when it vanished - over the summer? Personally I’d like to see it reinstated - that area still attracts rubbish so getting rid of the bin hasn’t helped with that (I recall bins elsewhere on the ladder being removed because it was felt they encouraged fly tipping/dumping).
I think its great that the bin was removed actually. Since the bin has gone near the passage on Seymour Road the fly-tipping at this spot has been virtually eliminated. What used to happen was that Veolia used to leave all their bin bags at this location from the ladder roads (after sweeping) for a good week and despite repeated pleas they point-blank refused to collect the waste bags on a daily basis. I used to walk past during the hot weather having to hold my nose as the smell was unbearable. You could see hundreds of maggots and flies inside the bags bursting their guts trying to get out. Then you got some people who thought that this was the correct spot to dump their shit as well ie a hotspot for fly-tipping as they knew that one day it would all be collected. In addition to this, the foxes and cats used to tear the bags apart and putrescible waste was strewn on the ground. This then attracted rats & pigeons causing more of a public health risk. The dogs with idiot owners who pretended not to see it let their animals shit and piss around the bags as well which added to the mess. In the end the people who lived around this spot were understandably & greatly fucked off, and therefore the bin was removed. This is the story of your disappearing bin.
Couldn’t agree with Paul more! Veolia were using it as their pickup location for all the litter bin waste in the area and leaving it to pile up for days on end before collecting. This definitely attracted flytippers to the location. The flies and the smell over the summer were horrendous! Since the bin has gone the large scale fly tipping has also stopped. Glad that bin has finally gone! I definitely don’t want to see it back.
Sure if someone contact the Council - All Sweeper Rubbish should be collected Each Day. The Council has a Morning and Evening crew of at least Four Scavenger vehicles that should pick up sweepers rubbish and dumped rubbish, Reported and found on their Patrols.
Fair point Paul and Victor - I had somehow blanked from my memory the horror of those piles of Veolia purple bags, and can imagine this was a constant thorn for those next to it (I am not far off myself).
But how ridiculous that we have to lose a bin because the way our rubbish disposal service uses it has effectively turned it into a fly tipping spot. I wonder where are Veolia putting the purple bags now?
Bob - that may be what is supposed to happen. But it doesn't.
